The purpose of the NSW Clinical Mentor and Manager is to mentor, educate, support and advise clinical managers across all NSW homes, to upskill clinical knowledge and capability. This role will ultimately achieve clinical competence and leadership amongst clinical managers, facilitating compliance and quality improvement across the state and to innovate new ways to maintain 100% compliance with the Aged Care Quality Standards.
This will require a high level of stakeholder engagement to work across each home to educate, mentor and backfill clinical leads. This is primarily a hands-on role, which encompasses an analytical, theoretical and practical approach.

Key responsibilities of the role:
Respond to NSW SVC homes’ clinical inexperience by being present onsite and working with Clinical Managers & Registered Nurses to identify gaps and learning needs
Support the Registered Nurses to ensure an understanding of the relevant SVC policy and processes & day to day operational workings of the home which includes supporting newly employed Registered Nurses
Provide excellent quality support, mentorship, guidance and assistance to homes, ensuring clinical priorities and standards are consistently met
Educate and ensure standardised systems are consistently utilised at each home
Identify areas of improvement in clinical leadership and quality/compliance and empower clinical leaders to implement strategies for optimal outcomes and corrective actions.
Within the mission/values of St Vincent’s Health Australia, ensure commitment to the provision of innovative, flexible and responsible clinical service delivery within a robust quality framework.
Support and assist in the preparation of homes for accreditation
Provide feedback regarding issues with systems to the State Quality & Compliance Manager & State Manager
Educate and mentor clinical managers in mandatory quality indicators, auditing, reporting and reviewing of clinical incidents
Identify trends and potential risks in the homes and assist with the implementation of interventions/training to reduce the risk.
Participate in nominated working groups/committees (internal and external).
Provide data analysis and reports as defined and requested by the State Manager
Review and provide feedback regarding systems/procedure changes & provide guidance and assistance to homes
Monitor the homes’ adherence to SVC policy & procedures and escalates consistent gaps in process
Attend SVC National Meeting (Governance/MAC) and all clinical governance meetings for the state.
Things that work for us:
Current RN registration with APRHA
Previous experience working in a Senior Clinical Leadership, Quality and Education position in Aged Care highly regarded
Comprehensive leadership experience of the clinical and operational functions of an Aged Care home; Clinician or previous experience in management and leadership of clinical practice
Highly focused on the consumer and committed to person centred and person directed best practice outcomes
Proactively recognises the need for innovation and initiatives options to explore for improvements and solutions
Comprehensive understanding of the Aged Care Quality Standards, including SIRS & National Aged Care Mandatory Quality Indicators Program
Experience with education and mentorship
An understanding of the culture and tradition of Catholic Health, including a commitment to the Mission, Vision and Values of the organisation and an ability to promote behavioural expectations in line with this philosophy
Ability to successfully complete Key Personnel pre-employment checks
Ability to travel between SVC homes in NSW as required.
