Deputy Reporting Lead

As a Deputy reporting lead you will ensure accurate and timely reporting of the actual financial figures for Alcon (sales of USD 9bn). In collaboration with the Head of Reporting Leads and other C&R team members, ensure proper documentation and correct recording of all global bookings affecting the consolidated figures as well as management reporting. Act as safety net by ensuring that no material mistake is consolidated into the Alcon Group figures.

Support business to drive for sustainable growth by providing meaningful financial information.

In this role, a typical day will include:

  • Accountable for timely delivery and accuracy of closing deck

- Work with APMR, MRG, FCRS, MTO, Treasury, Tax, etc. teams and take the lead to create month end deck

- Support BPA team and functional finance teams on accounting or reporting topics

- Ensures high quality and constant improvement of closing deck content and creation process

- Modify and adjust deck as needed to flag business risks and provide insights to the CFO

  • Responsible to participate in the closing call

- Keep minutes and distribute and assign actions to C&R members

- Drives CFO, BPA and Head FRA through the slides allocated and answer additional questions raised

- Present sections assigned

  • Accountable to keep track and monitor significant transactions

- Organize the pre-read materials for the monthly touch points with business

- Document and share list of significant transactions and risks with Alcon Reporting Lead

  • Accountable to deliver high quality BSR on a quarterly basis

- Work with the Deputy Reporting Lead responsible for the BSR to complete sections assigned

- Ensures high quality analytics and insights are captured

- Work with FRA Ops to ensure continued improvement in the assigned areas

- Ensure timely follow up on action items

  • Key member of the C&R team in the external reporting process working with Head of C&R and Head of Reporting leads together with the External Reporting and Technical Accounting teams

- Coordinate with MRG ensuring the C&R data file is modelled correctly for an efficient data flow from MAAP to the external reporting captions

- Tie out assigned areas of the external reporting documents

- Perform data analytics on selected balance sheet and Cash flow lines

- Assist the Head of reporting leads in review of the draft documents

  • Responsible to maintain relationship with external auditors and Financial Assurance

- Act as the C&R point of contact for external Audit

- Provides timely and accurate answers to queries from Audit team and ensures other C&R team members are aware and provide their deliverables

- Organizes and coordinates the C&R SOPs and AFCM completion

- Is the C&R point of contact for Financial Assurance

  • Responsible to provide ad-hoc support to other finance groups, for example and not limited to:

- Accounting and consolidation of acquisitions and divestments

- Monitoring of provisions and accruals

- Participate in country review visits

- Data provision to BPAs and insights into nature of balances

- Team member or lead C&R improvement projects

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO ALCON:

Education

  • University degree

  • Certified Public Accountant/Chartered Accountant

Language

  • Fluent in English both written and spoken

Experience

  • Overall relevant work experience of 5-8 years.  Strong technical competence acquired in:

    • Audit and Financial Reporting & Accounting: minimum 3 year Big 4 and/or Public Accounting experience

    • Financial Reporting systems: 5 to 8 year experience acquired in global consolidation and evaluating reporting systems

    • External Reporting and/or Compliance Function: 0 – 2 years’ experience acquired in one of these areas in a multinational company

  • Practical experience with consolidation and financial reporting tools

  • International experience and the ability to work in an international environment (i.e. an international team and deal with internal customers around the world)

  • IFRS

  • Independently perform analytical reviews of financial data identifying areas of increased risk and potential error for follow-up investigation

  • Write explanatory commentary on financial statement captions (balances and / or movements)
