The Role: As a Senior Applications Engineer, you play a pivotal role in developing solutions to complex water treatment needs. Your focus is on asking insightful questions, strategic problem solving, coordinating solution development in a matrix organization, and fostering a collaborative environment. Responsibilities
• Drive Discovery:
o Engage with sales, business developers, and customers to uncover and understand particular issues, needs, drivers, and constraints on medium to large complex projects.
o Become familiar with Xylem's product lines and offerings to guide stakeholders to solutions aligned with Xylem's strengths.
• Develop Cost-Effective Solutions:
o Use product knowledge, process tools, engagement with other stakeholders, and judgment to evaluate multiple treatment alternatives and determine optimal solution to meet customer needs at lowest total cost of ownership.
o Understand water analyses and perform projections of water quality.
o Work with drafters to create block flow, process flow, P&ID's, and other drawings as required for the application.
o Determines and understands risk associated with work product.
• Empower Communication
o Generate customer proposals utilizing standard tools, seeks and gains appropriate approval levels.
o Effectively communicate solution value to internal and external customers.
o Provides mentoring/training to other engineers on business processes and technical applications.
• Coordinate Matrixed Teams:
o Foster a positive team culture and encourage collaboration.
o Engage with sales, operations, project management, estimators, business developers, proposal coordinators, contract managers and others to verify a fully-vetted offering.
o Identify critical path items and monitor/drive progress of deliverables from proposal team members to ensure timely completion of winning proposals for water treatment services.
• Adaptability and Problem-Solving:
o Thrive in a changing environment and adapt to new challenges.
o Proactively address obstacles and find effective solutions.
o Collaborate with colleagues to drive results.
Requirements:
• 4+ years of proven experience water/wastewater treatment or related roles.
• Able to execute complex tasks with limited guidance.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to identify and engage top priorities for multiple projects simultaneously.
• Proficiency in office software (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Solid understanding of financial principals related to costing, business outcome, and risk mitigation.
• Ability to coordinate the work of multi-disciplinary teams.
• Some travel to other locations, meetings and/or seminars is required.
• Bachelor’s degree in chemical or mechanical engineering or a relevant field.
