Job Description

As the world works and lives faster, FIS is leading the wayOur fintech solutions touch nearly every market, company and person on the planet. Our teams are inclusive and diverse. Our colleagues work together and celebrate together. If you want to advance the world of fintech, we’d like to ask you: Are you FIS?

About the team:

We are the FIS Automated Finance team, and we build software to unlock intelligent cash management, Accounts Payable (AP), and Accounts Receivables (AR) for some of the largest companies in the world. We are recognized as an industry leader for Order-to-Cash, utilizing ML and AI for intelligent automation, and AP optimization using Virtual Cards, but we’re not stopping there. We are building new features for our customers, accelerating time-to-value, and unlocking AP & AR services for the larger FinTech platform, to enable developers across all verticals to easily consume our services

About the role:

We are looking for a Director, Software Engineering to help us build a brand-new financial technology platform for the future. This is a true builder role, inventing solutions that meet our customer needs in a new space. We are looking for someone who will take a nascent product/service and help launch and scale it. If you’re passionate about creating a culture of innovation, this role is for you. Whether it’s driving architecture, organizational changes, or deconstructing a complex process to find a straightforward solution – you’re a dedicated problem solver. And behind every action you take, is a desire to create positive impact for customers, business, or technology teams.

Note: We have a hybrid work environment in our Seattle/Bellevue office unless the role or business dictates otherwise.

What you will be doing:

  • Invest in Brilliance: You'll champion a culture of learning and growth, attracting the industry's best minds with unparalleled benefits, career development programs, and a relentless pursuit of innovation.
  • Grow Leaders, not Followers: Empower your team to own their decisions, embrace autonomy, and challenge the status quo. Guide them, not control them, and watch them flourish into the next generation of tech titans.
  • Influence, not Dictate: Your vision will be your compass, not your whip. Earn trust through collaboration, transparency, and a deep understanding of each engineer's strengths. Lead by example, inspire through dialogue, and watch your ideas take flight.
  • Drive technical decisions through architectural reviews, design reviews, code reviews, post-mortems, and detailed software specifications.
  • Manage a team of 10 to 40 software engineers and technical leads, unblocking maximum productivity for them, and growing their careers to the next level.
  • Drive software quality, implement observability, and comply with best practices for builds and deployment to ensure the quality and reliability of our platform.
  • Provide live on-call support by participating in the team on-call rotation and owning production issues from root cause analysis to resolution to future prevention.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (product, program management, design, security, compliance, etc.) to bring ideas to life.

What you will need:

  • At a minimum, a Bachelor's in CS or equivalent education, and a total of 7+ years of relevant professional experience or a combination of experience and advanced education.
  • 3+ years of supervising technical employees, with experience in performance management.
  • Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, asynchronous architectures, and distributed algorithms.
  • A demonstrable ability to lead and mentor engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Solid computer science fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, design patterns, and performance optimization.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Added bonus if you have:

  • Typical qualifications for the role are 5+ years of experience leading engineering teams.
  • A history of leading significant technical initiatives and delivering impactful results.
  • Experience in building and scaling high-performance engineering teams.
  • Experience with live on-call and 24/7 operation of production services.
  • Experience leading projects from architectural design to production, while setting and maintaining high standards of technical excellence across your team.
  • Expertise in at least one area relevant to our cloud-based financial platform (e.g., fintech, distributed systems, databases, security, or front-end).
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to influence both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A strong understanding of security best practices for building enterprise applications.

What we offer you:

At FIS, we hire the best. In return, you receive exceptional benefits including:

  • Opportunities to innovate in fintech.
  • Tools for personal and professional growth.
  • Inclusive and diverse work environment.
  • Resources to invest in your community.
  • Competitive salary and benefits.
