Job Description: The Lead Data Engineer at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin will design, build, deploy, and maintain various ETL jobs and data pipelines. Influence team members through lean agile leadership. Lead and drive work to completion and assign workload to junior team members. Work closely with engineering, data science, and analytics teams to enable business use cases through delivery of data products that expand availability and usability of data while ensuring quality of data. Mentor technical members of team on Software Craftsmanship and Quality Standards. Assist with production support, upgrade, and build self-healing data pipelines using CI/CD. Translate raw data into usable business information to achieve business value. Practice Agile methodologies to implement technical application requirements, analyze project requirements, and establish relationships with data owners and experts. Set standards, identify new patterns, and establish best practices for data engineering teams. Migrate data from various databases and sources such as Netezza, Postgres, Redshift, DB2, MySQL to AWS using PySpark and SQL. Utilize Big Data tools and technologies including Erwin to create data models, Databricks, Spark, and Python to create schema design, load data, and optimize data query results, then use Airflow to orchestrate data. Participate in code reviews and provide feedback to the team. Telecommuting permitted. Salary $123,552- $224,250 per year.

Minimum Requirements: Master’s degree in Data Analytics, Computer Science, or a related field plus 2 years (or a Bachelor’s degree plus 6 years) of experience as a data engineer or related occupation. Experience must include 2 years with each of the following: (1) Scala, Java, C#, or R; (2) Cloud platforms including AWS, S3, EMR, EC2, RDS, Redshift, or Lambda; (3) Data Integration Patterns and Tooling, including ELT/ETL, EII, Replication, Event Streaming, and Virtualization; (4) databases including PostgreSQL, SQL server, and DB2; (5) big data frameworks and computing tools including Spark, Hive, and Databricks using Python and SQL; (6) CI/CD pipelines, GitHub, Docker, and Kubernetes; (7) Agile Scrum principals, Task meetings, and Retrospectives; and (8) software development life cycle including requirement gathering, debugging, analysis, and software documentation.
