We are seeking a detail‑oriented and service‑focused Unit Secretary / Unit Support Associate to support the daily operations of an assigned patient care unit. In this vital role, you will provide clerical, receptionist, and administrative support while contributing to a safe, organized, and therapeutic environment. By supporting nurses, physicians, patients, and families, you help ensure the delivery of high‑quality, age‑ and developmentally appropriate patient care.

Essential Functions

  • Perform clerical duties related to patient scheduling, admissions, procedures, transfers, surgeries, discharges, and deaths under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
  • Answer, screen, and route incoming calls; accurately take and transmit messages as needed.
  • Ensure complete, confidential, accurate, and timely communication of patient information.
  • Complete requisitions, data entry, transcription, and nursing communication forms.
  • Contribute to a safe, secure, and therapeutic environment for patients, visitors, physicians, and co‑workers by following established procedures.
  • Communicate with team members, patients, and family members in an effective, positive, and professional manner.
  • Take personal responsibility and initiative for performance, professional growth, and development.
  • Maintain an organized, quiet, and efficient work environment; demonstrate the ability to cope with stressful situations and frequent interruptions.
  • Complete assigned unit responsibilities and assist other staff members when time permits.
  • Support age‑ and developmentally appropriate patient care in accordance with Age/Developmental Specific Care Guidelines for the populations served.

Education, Experience, Licensure & Certification Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of a unit secretary course or equivalent preferred.
  • Clerical or administrative experience preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification: Not required.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Basic computer skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to perform effectively with frequent workload changes and competing demands.
  • Ability and willingness to develop transcription skills.
  • Professional demeanor with a strong commitment to confidentiality and teamwork.

Work Environment

  • Frequent interaction with multiple levels of staff and departments.
  • Regular contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances.
  • Possible exposure to infections, contagious diseases, and cleaning agents/chemicals.
  • Subject to multiple interruptions and extended periods of computer use.
