Job Summary:


The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is responsible for caring for ill, injured, convalescent, or disabled persons in hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, and similar institutions. May work under the supervision of a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse. The CNA assists with providing safe, age-appropriate care to the resident/patient by performing basic resident/patient care functions (e.g., activities of daily living (ADLs), hygiene, repositioning, ambulation, vital signs, documentation, and other approved skills). Performs duties deemed necessary to ensure the delivery of safe care including skills requiring competency validation. Presents self in a positive and professional manner and shows sensitivity to concerns and needs of others. The work schedule/shift may vary depending on the needs of the unit and site.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Excellence in Customer Service by partnering with health care team, patient/resident and family
* Protects rights and dignity of patient/resident at all times.
* Maintains confidentiality.
* Participates in patient/resident rounding per standards.
* Answers telephone and call lights promptly and notifies appropriate individual of needs for follow-up.
* Resolves concerns and immediately informs the nurse/leader of complaints.
* Proactively offers assistance and comfort measures to patient/residents and families.
* Presents self in positive and professional manner and demonstrates sensitivity to concerns and needs of others.

Patient/Resident Centered Care
* Provide patient/resident care according to the Plan of Care.
* Provide basic patient/resident care needs (e.g. hygiene, nutrition, elimination, physical comfort
* measures) as assigned.
* Assist nurse and other members of health care team with care delivery as assigned.
* Provide meals and nourishment to the patient/resident according to dietary standards and the plan of care. * Documents intake and output.
* Take vital signs and document, report verbally to the nurse any acute changes in a timely manner.
* Document all patient care delivered in a timely manner as required by policy.

Provide emotional support for the patient/resident and family
*Verify how the patient/resident wants to be addressed.
*Demonstrates professional and friendly bedside manner.
*Provide time to listen and establish rapport.
*Affirm and recognize the family's role in support of the patient/resident.
*Observe any religious, or cultural restrictions or practices of the patient/resident and family.

Provide for a safe and organized environment
* Perform basic housekeeping duties in the immediate area of the patient/resident s room and bath.
* Cleans and sanitizes personal direct care items (bedpan, urinal, etc) per policy/standards.
* Ensure that safety hazards related to fall risk are removed or controlled i.e. cords, oxygen tubing, clutter etc.
* Ensure that Oxygen signage is displayed, and tanks are stored correctly.
* Ensure that bedrails, bed alarms and personal alarms are utilized correctly and encourage family and visitors to do
so.

Ensure that the patient/resident has all the required supplies needed for care
* Stock the necessary medical supplies and skin care products in the patient/resident care area.
* Stock the required linens and incontinent supplies in the patient/residents room.
* Transports patient/resident as needed.
* Transports specimens and supplies as needed.
*Transoports specimens and supplies as needed.

Performs other duties as assigned

Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.



Required Minimum Education:

  • or High School Diploma or GED


Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.

  • Cert Nurse Assistant and American Heart Association Basic Life Support


Additional License(s) and Certification(s):

Georgia Driver's License Upon Hire Preferred or
Private Vehicle insurance Upon Hire Preferred

Required Minimum Experience:

Less than 1 year related experience Required

Required Minimum Skills:

Must complete orientation and demonstrate proficiency in required functions and tasks related to resident care.
Must be able to read, interpret, and understand verbal instructions.
ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
ability to read, write, and comprehend medical terminology.
have basic math skills.
Must be able to perform under stressful conditions.
