About This Opportunity 

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Leader to take on the role of Production Animal Nurse Coordinator. This is a unique opportunity to lead a dynamic team, manage the day-to-day operations of our production animal services, and contribute to the overall success of our service.

This position is to provide high level support and assistance the large team of veterinary staff, including:

  • Assisting Clinical Academics in the undergraduate teaching of veterinary.
  • Assisting veterinary technology students in a clinical environment through the coordination of day-to-day activities.
  • Mentoring and supervising Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) staff. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage the production animal division, including the coordination of veterinary services, client relations, and staff management.
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the production animal services.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and best practices in production animal care.
  • Assist UQ management and leadership to manage the financial performance of the production animal division.
  • Lead, mentor, and support a team of veterinarians, veterinary nurses, and support staff.
  • Coordinate with clients, suppliers, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth operations and high levels of client satisfaction.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting continuous learning and professional development among staff and students

This is a full-time, continuing position. As a 24-hour operation, your take-home salary will be dependent on your specific roster, including loadings of 50% for weekend shifts, 25% for night shifts, and 15% for afternoon shifts.

Afternoon shifts are shifts commencing at or after midday and finishing at or before midnight, Night Shift are shifts extending beyond midnight and finishing at or before 6AM. About You  

  • Cert IV in Veterinary Nursing and/or Bachelor of Applied Science (Veterinary Technology) and/or Bachelor of Veterinary Technology or equivalent. 
  • A postgraduate qualification in Veterinary Nursing or relevant specialist qualification is  desirable 
  • Demonstrated experience working as a senior technician within the VTH, or another large clinic.  
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver and maintain high standards of professional veterinary nursing in all areas of nursing. 
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise and mentor staff. 
  • Be able to work independently within their service and have the proven ability to establish effective working relationships within a team.  
  • Demonstrated ability to work flexibly with the use of initiative and autonomy.  
  • Good written and oral communication skills, including high level organisational skills and demonstrated ability to use these skills in managing professional & operational relationships with colleagues, clients and students.  
  • Knowledge of ethical requirements, relevant policies and procedures, including workplace health and safety, employment equity and anti-discrimination. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and excellence in the field of veterinary technology and nursing.  
  • Interest in the clinical teaching of veterinary and veterinary technology professionals in training.  
  • Possess or be able to apply for a radiation license. 

In addition, the following mandatory requirements apply:

  • Work Rights: You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment to apply. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment. 
  • Mandatory Immunisations: It is a condition of employment for this role that you will be required to provide evidence of immunisation against certain vaccine preventable diseases.
