Job Summary:

The Head of SMB for PayPal DACH holds strategic and operational responsibility for the SMB segment, the fastest growing and most profitable segment revenue and SMB customers. The role oversees and drives the growth of PayPal’s branded checkout and wallet products. The position leads a diverse, cross-functional team around 100 people in Germany and Dublin. The Head of SMB DACH acts as a driving force behind PayPal’s SMB business transformation into an efficient, multichannel sales organisation, leveraging the company’s strong brand, trusted reputation and unique consumer position to expand beyond payments into new financial services, such as BNPL, merchant financing and POS.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor senior leaders within the sales development team.

Expected Qualifications:

  • 12+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Responsibilities & Preferred Qualifications:

This is a senior leadership role responsible for understanding the merchant needs of the DACH markets, the prioritization of those needs, and driving solutions with our global product and engineering teams with respect to the local markets. The successful individual will be responsible for driving all aspects of the strategy, growth, and market share for PayPal in these markets across the SMB segments and all associated channels.

Reports to the VP and General Manager, DACH.

Role Summary

This role requires strong strategic, analytical skills combined with proven experience leading commercial and sales teams targeting the SMB/mid-market segments. The candidate must have a strong grasp of digital sales, telesales (in-/outbound), field and partner sales. The candidate has solid-line responsibilities to the POS lead, Head of Inside Sales, Developer Lead and business development. Dotted-line responsibilities include the Head of Partner, Managed SMB, Vendor Management, and Win Back in Customer Service.

Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and implement the SMB strategy to achieve revenue targets and market share growth for DACH.
  • Concurrently operate as the central coordinator on all SMB product activities in market, from insights to marketing.
  • Conduct user, partner and market analysis to identify opportunities and drive strategic initiatives.
  • Lead the development and execution of strategy, pricing, promotion, and distribution strategies.
  • Align sales strategies with PayPal-wide goals, ensuring consistency and effectiveness across the organization.
  • Inspire and lead a team of sales professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
  • Accountable for meeting regulatory requirements and rules and guidance, ensuring customer-outcome led decision making at all levels.
  • Ensuring ongoing monitoring of outcomes to assess whether we are meeting the needs of our customers, through our products, services, communications and value propositions.
  • Provide industry expertise and insights to influence decision-making at the highest levels.
  • Oversee the development and execution of initiatives that result in global process improvements.
  • Partner with the broader DACH Senior Leadership team to drive a high-performance culture across the region

Commercial Operations

  • Oversee the day-to-day commercial operations, ensuring efficient and effective processes.
  • Manage the end-to-end P&L for the SMB segment.
  • Develop and manage the sales forecast, budget, and financial plans.
  • Collaborate across Engineering, Operations, Partnerships, Product, Risk, Legal, Sales, Marketing, Finance and Business Development to influence and drive product outcomes in a matrix organization, building executive alignment and driving the adoption of the best products to support our customers.
  • Represent the SMB commercial function in executive meetings and provide insights and recommendations. Performance Monitoring and Reporting
  • Provide regular reports and updates to senior management highlighting key performance metrics, financial results, and strategic milestones.
  • Analyze sales data and market trends to inform decision-making and strategy adjustments.
  • Implement robust reporting systems to track and measure commercial success.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 12+ years' experience with responsibility for the SMB segment and associated channels

• Proven track record for building, launching, and maintaining high-scale, successful business units in a highly matrixed organization

• Several years of consulting experience preferred: Experience strategically influencing and aligning senior stakeholders and key partners to drive action, results and change consistently

• Demonstrated commercial success scaling segments in a global, matrixed organization

• Multi-disciplined leader who builds, develops, and advances high-performing teams with strong analytical, strategic, and operational excellence

• Exceptional communication and presentation skills with an ability to convey complex concepts and issues in a compelling, persuasive, fact-based manner

• Hands-on, "roll up your sleeves" mindset, with the ability to be a driver and change agent in an organization.

• BA is required; MBA, and/or technical degree is preferred.
