Job Summary

McKesson has an opening for a Senior Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) Specialist.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Support, troubleshoot, and develop best practices in EDI-related system and operations for the US Oncology Network (all markets).  Collaborate with software vendor (s) to meet our markets’ needs.

  • Analyze client requirements for the electronic exchange of information and ensure that client systems and internal systems are compatible and connected.

  • Write detailed specifications of user needs, existing or new program functions, and steps required to develop or modify EDI programs. Conduct testing of information exchange to validate data.

  • Requires availability after normal business hours for application testing, emergency troubleshooting, scheduled maintenance, and the implementation of off-hours changes.

  • Acts as a key contributor in a more complex/critical environment ensuring our customers’ EDI needs are met.

  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience; may direct the EDI work of others without formal management responsibilities; may utilize internal or external resources to accomplish goals.

  • A strong understanding of EDI standards, protocols, and formats. The analyst should be familiar with various transaction types used in EDI. Knowledge of the relationships with payers, clearinghouses, and our vendors’ EDI functionality. The analyst should have a strong analytical mindset and be able to investigate and diagnose issues by analyzing the information available, often communicating those details to the vendor for resolution.

Minimum Requirements & Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent discipline or 7+ years of experience with EDI analysis, system integration, or related roles required.

  • A strong understanding of athenaIDX architecture, administration, and maintenance preferred. A bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or related discipline or a minimum of 5 years’ experience required. Proficient in athenaIDX and EDI transactions, tools, and processing, including claims, remits, eligibility, and statements.  Familiarity with EDI standards such as ANSI X12 and 5010. Ability to interpret and troubleshoot EDI transactions. Experience with EDI analysis, system integration, or related roles. Experience in managing relationships with trading partners and ensuring compliance with EDI standards and requirements. This involves establishing communication protocols, exchanging testing documents, and resolving any communication or data quality issues. Experience with change management.

Critical Skills

  • 5+ years of experience in EDI transactions, tools, and processing including claims, remits, eligibility, and statements required.

  • 5+ years of experience with EDI standards such as ANSI X12 and 5010 required.

  • 5+ years of experience with interpreting and troubleshooting EDI transactions required.

  • 5+ years of experience in managing relationships with trading partners and ensuring compliance with EDI standards and requirements required.

  • 5+ years’ experience with athenaIDX architecture, administration, and maintenance preferred.

  • 5+ years’ experience with customer requirement gathering, system design, change management preferred.

  • Experience with ServiceNow ticketing application preferred.

  • 5+ years’ experience with customer service or customer relationship management highly desirable

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to clearly articulate ideas and information.

  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in written and verbal communication.

  • Ability to effectively use communication tools and technologies (e.g., Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Smartsheet).

Additional Skills & Key Traits

  • Collaboration and Teamwork: EDI applications often involve multiple stakeholders, including trading partners, business analysts, IT teams, our customers and vendor.  This analyst must be able to work in a team environment, fostering collaboration, and coordination to ensure the successful implementation and ongoing support of EDI as it grows and evolves.

  • Communication Skills: Effective communication is crucial for an EDI analyst. Requires thorough and timely documentation in support tickets, project tickets, change requests. Requires clear and meaningful communication to customers, vendors, and colleagues. Requires effective follow-up on communication where required by company mandated service level agreements.

  • Attention to Detail: EDI transactions require precise data mapping and adherence to standards. Monitor and act upon vendor and industry alerts ensuring understanding, appropriate next steps, communicating to our market customers as appropriate, and collaboration with our vendor.

  • Adaptability: The EDI landscape is fluid with new standards, regulations, and improved technologies. The analyst must be adaptable and willing to learn and master new tools and protocols in collaboration with our EDI vendor.

  • Overall, a successful EDI analyst combines their functional expertise and technical understanding, excellent problem-solving skills, effective communication abilities, and an understanding of our customers’ and vendors business processes.

Working Conditions

  • Remote work environment.

  • Able to travel domestically 5% of the time.

  • Must be authorized to work in the US unrestricted – This position is not eligible for sponsorship.

This is determined by several factors, including performance, experience and skills, equity, regular job market evaluations, and geographical markets. Our Base Pay Range for this position

$91,700 - $152,800
