HelloFresh is in search of an ambitious, organized, detail-oriented Manager of Editorial Production & Design to join our growing Editorial Team. The ideal candidate should be an empowered self-starter with excellent organizational, production-driven design, editorial workflow, and technical data-entry skills—with a passion for leadership, cross-functional communication, and end-to-end recipe card production. We are a fast-moving team with a focus on producing precise, engaging, educational content. 

The Manager of Editorial Production & Design, reporting to the Senior Manager of Editorial Content & Production, is responsible for a broad range of tasks and responsibilities, which typically span multiple positions within the editorial structure of a more traditional publication team. This role is continuously collaborating with the culinary team, nutrition team, photo team, product operations team, menu planning team, project management team, as well as our team of editors, proofreaders, and production designers to produce over 100 recipe cards and meal stories every week across our HelloFresh, EveryPlate, Green Chef, and Factor brands, ensuring timely, accurate delivery of assets to our printers.  

The ideal candidate should have an understanding of project management as it relates to editorial workflows, with the ability to meet tight deadlines while also maintaining great flexibility when necessary. Details, timelines, and organization are your love languages. You enjoy collaborating with co-workers across multiple departments, and know how to facilitate a constant stream of communication. You will…

  • Manage and oversee Production Editors and Designers
  • Collaborate with the Editorial Content team to produce over 100 recipe cards every week and contribute editorial web support across our HelloFresh, EveryPlate, Green Chef, and Factor brands. This includes:
    • Overseeing our recipe database and menu indexing documents to ensure editors are pulling information from one accurate source of truth across the brand portfolio 
    • Collecting and consolidating recipe feedback from internal business partners and acting as liaison between the Editorial, Menu Planning, Culinary, and Project Management teams
    • Acting as senior point of contact for Editorial changes applicable to recipe cards
    • Overseeing sweeping recipe and menu changes as needed
    • Overseeing all brand partnership marketing info requests on recipe cards
    • Overseeing ingredient SKU changes into recipe docs as needed
    • Overseeing reprints of recipe cards as needed
    • Ensure quality control of recipe cards, to include photography, ingredients, steps, and requested changes are accounted for
    • Contribute to editorial and design efforts on specialty projects
    • Manage and meet deadlines across all projects and tasks
    • Multitasking between weekly print cadences while continuing to develop and maintain the identity of each brand
    • Adapt text from recipes and format for DocsFlow integration into InDesign Templates
  • Pitch in at various editorial checkpoints, ensuring clarity, consistency, and accuracy among recipes. This may include helping with:
    • Reviewing recipe titles, descriptions, ingredient names, and instructions to ensure they align with brand-specific tone and style guidelines
    • Updating recipe information in editorial tools and documents due to change requests
    • Reviewing recipe cards going to the printer
  • Assist the Senior Manager of Editorial Content & Production across all brands. This includes:
    • Identifying and communicating efficiency opportunities within all workflows and processes in order to increase team productivity and output 
    • Organizing onboarding and training of new team members, as well as additional training for the Editorial team 
    • Providing support for data-tracking and analysis in order to support growing business needs
    • Assisting with freelance budgets and invoice approvals
  • Lead meetings with cross-functional teams such as task forces and check-ins, to include:
    • Acting as an ambassador for the Editorial Team, facilitating meaningful stakeholder relationships
    • Implementing proven and innovative team leadership solutions to complete projects
    • Mitigating potential risks to critical project work
  • Maintain Editorial database of helpful documents and SOPs, style guides and training documents
  • Act as a liaison between the Editorial, Project Management and Business Technology Teams to create and improve process efficiencies. This may include:
    • Continually prioritizing workflow to adhere to production schedule, creatively problem-solving clashes
    • Working efficiently, proactively getting recipe cards into near-final state to minimize rounds of feedback
    • Find and implement new technologies, or leverage current technologies in new ways, to help facilitate recipe card production and more streamlined processes
  • Act as a liaison between the Editorial and Recipe Review (Analytics) Teams to create better customer experiences with recipe cards
  • Oversee photography assets to include helping the team with:
    • Researching and repurposing photography from our image database (DAM)
    • Preparing photo collections for weekly briefs to the photo team
    • Collaborating with Editors to assess and approve photo reshoots
    • Photo briefing for emergency reshoots

Qualifications...

  • 8+ years experience in editorial project management, content management and creation, and/or production design–a senior-level management role in food media and/or meal kit companies is a plus and a culinary degree is an added bonus
  • A Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Design, and/or a Communications-related field
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Docs, and Adobe CS: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, plus DocsFlow. Plus, experience using project management software (we use Wrike)
  • Demonstrated experience managing a cross-functional team–you are an innate leader with emotional intelligence and fortitude to manage a high-stakes, high-performing team
  • A desire to be a self-starter, proactive problem solver, relentless in pursuit of solutions to roadblocks
  • A deep understanding of creative and print production processes 
  • Ability to maintain consistent deadlines while ensuring complete accuracy across all projects and tasks
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills–you are effective at synthesizing complex information into easy-to-understand bullet points and have the ability to think strategically on both micro and macro business levels
  • Superb organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple projects, workstreams, and timelines simultaneously–our team must be able to calmly, cleanly switch between projects at a moment’s notice
  • Experience thriving in a fast-paced, collaborative, cross-disciplinary environment, plus a keen sense of urgency and strong sense of follow-through with an interest in owning and guiding projects from infancy to execution
  • Ability and desire to effectively drive change through empathy and persistence
  • An impeccable eye for detail and nuance
  • An interest in the culinary world, with a comfort level re: techniques and ingredients—you find yourself reading cookbooks in your spare time and scouring social media for the latest culinary trends… or at least talking about them with others!
