- Hours: Monday-Thursday 4pm-7pm and Saturday 9am-11am
What you will need:
- Requires the ability to read, to exchange information with customers and others, and/or to do basic arithmetic
- Requires a minimum of two years of High School. The ability to read, to exchange information with customers and others, and/or to do basic arithmetic.
- Current CPR issued by American Heart Association or Red Cross within 90 days
What you will do:
Prepares and leads children's aquatic and land classes to improve swimming techniques, self-esteem of children in class, overall body awareness, and improve cardiovascular and muscular strength and endurance. In doing so, designs class routines, instructs participants in proper form and techniques and modifies class intensity and/or routine in order to address the needs of healthy and/or special population participants. Customer service is required for all Children’s Swim Instructors. In addition, speaks with parents after each class to notify them of their child’s progress. Customer service is required for all Children's Group Exercise Instructors.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of participants served. This includes knowledge of the physical and psychological needs of participants served and the ability to respond appropriately to those needs.
- Designs and implements exercise to ensure a safe workout for children. This includes age-appropriate exercises and/or games, creating a safe environment for class participants, and providing excellent customer service skills. Responsible for teaching appropriate skills for children’s levels and abilities.
- Gathers and organizes supplies needed to ensure a safe class.
- Responsible for both set up and cleanup of area.
- Assists in the development, planning, marketing and successful implementation of classes, programs and events for the group exercise program.
- Monitors participant’s condition and/or skill in order to assess intensity levels and/or teaching progression of water classes. Modifies pace and/or exercise routine to maintain appropriate intensity level. Answers parent’s questions about aquatics and land classes.
- Remains abreast of new techniques routines, theory, information, etc. in aquatics.
- Attends all EHFC and department staff meetings, in services, and training. Acquires and maintains knowledge of all programming offered by department.
- Responsible for covering or finding an appropriate substitute for all assigned classes. Employees on a sub status must sub a minimum of 6 times per year.
- Follows the policies and procedures related to instructing children’s aquatic programs.
- Ensures a safe aquatic environment by enforcing pool rules and maintaining constant surveillance of the pool.
