Primary Function

The Mortgage Insurance Claims Specialist II will be responsible for timely and accurate claims filing, as well as the compilation of complete claims packages, related to MI, government, and/or investor (GSE) reimbursement claims. This includes claims related post-sale functions such as property preservation and eviction updates, conveyance of title, title delivery, compilation of required documentation, and adherence to GSE (Freddie and Fannie) servicing requirements during the reimbursement timeframe, as well as responding appropriately to inquiries and requests from both internal and external sources.

Principal Duties

  • Review and monitor timelines for claim due dates and other claim related deliverables.
  • Perform a forensic review of servicing from date of default to claim filing to determine key data elements and claimable expenses to maximize recovery of losses and incentives.
  • Review all servicing notes, monthly servicing reporting, timelines, supporting document, and claims detail to ensure all documentation is accurate and sufficient.
  • Monitor and communicate servicing updates as required to maintain claim eligibility and adherence to guidelines.
  • Perform post-sale servicing functions as required by the guidelines for MI, investor, and HUD/VA/USDA including responding accurately and timely to requests for information and documentation.
  • Research and resolve issues that arise as a part of the post-sale and claim timelines.
  • Reconcile claims proceeds and file supplemental claims as needed, and track deferments.
  • Effectively manage time-dependent deliverables for multiple claim types.
  • Identify trends affecting efficiency, quality, and accuracy of claims.
  • Assist in the completion of special and seasonal projects, such as audit or year-end.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Education and Experience Requirements 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • College degree preferred.
  • 3+ years’ claims filing experience is required.
  • Default-related mortgage servicing experience is required.

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements 

  • Knowledge of FHA/VA/USDA default servicing guidelines required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including, Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Proven or other Claim System experience preferred.
  • Familiar with GSE and government loan servicing guidelines.
  • Experience reviewing processes, reports, and/or documents with a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to develop strong working relationships with key stakeholders, vendors, and peers.
  • Excellent problem resolution and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Self-motivated with ability to work under timelines without direct supervision.
