SUMMARY:
The Manufacturing Engineer I role is a critical technical resource responsible for the quality, efficiency, and advanced process support of assigned manufacturing lines. This role combines hands-on expertise in equipment optimization with a strategic focus on continuous improvement, data-driven problem-solving (e.g., CIQ, TARS), and new product introduction (NPI) integration to maximize line performance and yield.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Process Optimization and Performance
- Drive continuous improvement in key line metrics, including efficiencies, throughput, and yields, utilizing root cause analysis and systematic problem-solving.
- Develop, apply, and maintain a strong knowledge of manufacturing processes to optimize equipment performance and reduce machine-generated scrap.
- Monitor machine management data and continuously strive to balance and optimize line throughput, focusing on efforts to minimize changeover downtime (e.g., implementing common set-ups).
- Diagnose and implement long-term solutions for repetitive equipment problems to actively minimize facility-wide equipment downtime.
- Provide input and ideas for cost reduction by streamlining processes and systems.
Equipment and Quality Management
- Serve as the primary escalation resource and technical expert for complex equipment and process issues, providing support to Machine Support Technicians.
- Ensure 100% on-time completion of preventive maintenance (PM) tasks and maintain accurate maintenance records.
- Create and maintain wave and reflow soldering profiles to meet IPC-610B (or other applicable standards) for solder quality.
- Design and/or procure necessary production tooling, including stencils, vacuum plates, wave solder pallets, fixtures, and jigs.
Line Coordination and Training
- Facilitate New Product Introduction (NPI) and prototype runs, ensuring smooth process integration and support.
- Coordinate line reconfigurations and machine move activities (equipment positioning, installation) and effectively schedule support groups (Machine Support, Facilities, MIS) using approved communication processes.
- Interface with line supervisors to determine work priorities based on production schedules.
- Conduct training for Machine Support Technicians to elevate team capabilities and knowledge.
