First Nations Cancer and Wellbeing Research (FNCWR) within the School of Public Health
Full-time or part-time (minimum 0.8 FTE), fixed-term position for up to 3 years
Base salary will be in the range $132,647 - $140,276 + 17% Superannuation (HEW Level 9)

Join our team as a Research Strategy Program Manager and play a key role in supporting the growth and sustainability of the First Nations Cancer and Wellbeing Research (FNCWR) Program. As a vital part of our research team, you will contribute to the development of strategic initiatives, strengthen partnerships with key stakeholders, and ensure the efficiency of research operations. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of cancer and wellbeing research while promoting positive change for First Nations communities.
Key responsibilities will include:
Provide strategic advice to the FNCWR Program Lead on building a sustainable research program with strong community engagement. Support the identification of opportunities and gaps in research capabilities, and help develop strategies to maximize the program’s impact.
Oversee the management of research projects and consultancy, ensuring all research deliverables are met. Provide guidance on contract management, ethics, and compliance while supporting the Program Lead in developing the program’s annual budget and long-term financial projections.
Lead the development of efficient administrative structures and processes that align with the FNCWR Program’s vision. Manage the administrative team, ensuring the delegation of tasks and achieving deadlines while fostering a high-performance, collaborative work environment.

About You
Postgraduate qualifications in management, public health, or a related field, or equivalent experience, with a strong background in managing research programs and funding.
Extensive knowledge of Australian competitive granting schemes (e.g., NHMRC, MRFF, ARC) and experience in managing both pre- and post-award research funding.
Demonstrated ability to contribute to strategic planning, policy formulation, and the implementation of research strategies to achieve program goals.
Proven experience in managing, analyzing, and reporting on research program budgets, timelines, and deliverables.
Demonstrated ability to manage staff, fostering high performance, skills development, and productivity within a research team.
Strong research facilitation skills, with the ability to identify research linkages and foster communication among diverse stakeholders, including industry partners and government agencies.
High-level time-management and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently under pressure, while demonstrating a strong commitment to integrity, sound judgment, and problem-solving.
The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including: right to work in Australia, criminal check and education check.
