Job Description:

Software Engineer in Test

Technology is at the heart of Disney’s past, present, and future. Disney Entertainment and ESPN Product & Technology is a global organization of engineers, product developers, designers, technologists, data scientists, and more – all working to build and advance the technological backbone for Disney’s media business globally.

The team marries technology with creativity to build world-class products, enhance storytelling, and drive velocity, innovation, and scalability for our businesses. We are Storytellers and Innovators. Creators and Builders. Entertainers and Engineers. We work with every part of The Walt Disney Company’s media portfolio to advance the technological foundation and consumer media touch points serving millions of people around the world.

Here are a few reasons why we think you’d love working here:

  • Building the future of Disney’s media: Our Technologists are designing and building the products and platforms that will power our media, advertising, and distribution businesses for years to come.
  • Reach, Scale & Impact: More than ever, Disney’s technology and products serve as a signature doorway for fans' connections with the company’s brands and stories. Disney+. Hulu. ESPN. ABC. ABC News…and many more. These products and brands – and the unmatched stories, storytellers, and events they carry – matter to millions of people globally.
  • Innovation: We develop and implement groundbreaking products and techniques that shape industry norms, and solve complex and distinctive technical problems.

Role Overview

We’re hiring QA Engineers across multiple levels—from entry to principal—to ensure product quality for Disney’s consumer and platform experiences. You’ll design test strategies, build automation, and partner with engineers and product to validate features end to end across APIs, services, web, and mobile. You’ll use data and observability to prevent regressions, improve reliability, and accelerate release confidence. Depending on level, you may author tests, own quality for a product area, or set quality standards and mentor engineers across teams.

*Throughout the recruitment process we will evaluate your skills and experience to determine level placement

Responsibilities

  • Define test strategies and acceptance criteria; collaborate with Engineering and Product to align on risk, scope, and success measures.
  • Design, implement, and maintain automated tests for API, service, UI/web, and mobile; maximize coverage via unit, integration, contract, and end‑to‑end suites.
  • Build reliable test automation frameworks and utilities (e.g., for data setup, mocks, synthetic traffic, and environment provisioning).
  • Instrument quality signals and observability (e.g., dashboards, alerts, traces) to detect regressions and validate SLIs/SLOs.
  • Create robust data validation approaches (SQL and event validation) to ensure correctness for data‑driven features and pipelines.
  • Plan and execute non‑functional testing (performance, load, resiliency, accessibility, security in partnership with specialists).
  • Drive CI/CD quality gates, flaky test remediation, and shift‑left practices; triage failures and partner on fast root‑cause analysis.
  • Author clear defect reports with reproduction steps, logs, and traces; track to closure and verify fixes.
  • Champion quality culture: documentation, testability in design reviews, exploratory testing, and continuous improvement.
  • At higher levels: define org‑wide quality standards, coach teams, and lead cross‑team initiatives that raise engineering excellence.

Basic Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Practical experience designing test strategies and building automation for web, mobile, services/APIs, and data validation use cases.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming/scripting languages used for test automation (e.g., Python, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript) and modern test tools (e.g., PyTest/JUnit/TestNG, Cypress/Playwright, REST/GraphQL clients).
  • Working knowledge of CI/CD systems and version control; ability to implement quality gates and fast feedback loops.
  • Comfort with SQL and event validation to verify data integrity and message flows; familiarity with batch/streaming concepts is a plus.
  • Foundational understanding of reliability and observability concepts (logs, metrics, traces) and how to use them to prevent/diagnose issues.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills; ability to influence testability and quality throughout the software lifecycle.
  • Curiosity, ownership, and a bias toward automation and continuous improvement; commitment to inclusive, respectful teamwork.
