Job Description Summary:

University of Kansas Medical Center is seeking a Research Nurse to play a critical role in implementing and performing research projects in Clinical and Translational Science Unit (CTSU). Typical duties listed are collecting and reviewing clinical data, assisting investigators, screening subjects, and providing support during procedures.

  • Must maintain Registered Nurse license in the state Kansas while in this position. 

  • Will be required to obtain licensing within the state of Missouri within 6 months of hire.

Required Qualifications

Education / Certifications: Registered nursing license in state of Kansas.

Work Experience

  • Two years related work experience.
  • Basic Life Support Certification.

Preferred Qualifications

Education / Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • Registered nursing license in state of Missouri.

  • ACLS and PALS certification.

  • Good Clinical Practice Certification.

  • Human Subject Research Certification.

Job Duties Outlined:

  • Plan, provide, and document professional nursing care utilizing the nursing process for patients of all ages in accordance with the protocol, physician orders, institutional SOPs and state licensure scope of practice.

  • Use professional nursing judgment when conducting nursing research activities to participants.

  • Perform procedures and/or administer Investigational Drugs in strict compliance to the study protocol, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), and other state and local regulations as applicable.

  • Oversee and monitor the well-being and safety of study participants; identify Adverse Events (AEs) and provide proper documentation and reporting of all AEs to study team.

  • Attend continuing education, research and training seminars as requested by manager.

  • Provide clear and comprehensive documentation of study visit activities while adhering to the study protocol and the guidelines of Good Clinical Practice

  • Operate and maintain research equipment according to departmental policy.

  • Perform study defined procedures and assessments, including, but not limited to, vital signs, IV placement, drug administration, lab collection, lab processing, phlebotomy, electrocardiograms, etc. in strict compliance with the study protocol.

  • Ensure all required consent forms are obtained prior to any research activities.

  • Utilize evidence-based practice methods to improve participant care and study conduct.

  • Able to be flexible with daily assignments including work locations.

  • Work proficiently both in a team environment and independently, with minimal supervision.

  • Daily use of computer and Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook email, Word, and Excel.

  • Develop flowsheets for study teams utilizing CTSU services as per protocol.

  • Participate in start-up meetings with study teams when necessary.

  • Adhere to unit policies and procedures.

  • Assist the Clinical Director and Nurse Supervisor with SOP development when necessary.

  • Perform clinical research coordinator (CRC) duties as needed.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
