ViiV Japan is enhancing the data management and analysis capabilities to provide actionable insights. Within the Business Excellence department, the role will focus on establishing internal data structures and managing data quality, including Databricks and Power BI, through a global data strategy. The Data Management and Engineering Manager (DME) will work closely with Business Excellence Head and members, and vendors to maintain a series of data analytics tools, and to ensure commercial-related datasets and subsequent analysis to improve our business. 

DME will develop and maintain a thriving data environment using GitHub and Databricks, automate schemes for business data analysis, and conduct basic data-oriented analysis cross-functionally to achieve the following objectives, the Data Management Specialist actively supports the department head and the Business Analytics Lead.

  • Provide actionable and valuable insights to the Marketing and Sales departments to drive competitive advantage and future growth, while proactively identifying and managing competitive threats by sharing the current corporate vision and market conditions. 
  • Continuously improve the BI and CRM environment within ViiV Japan. 
  • Develop and update forecasting models and databases to enhance forecast accuracy. 
  • Collaborate with the Marketing, Digital, Tech and IT teams at ViiV and GSK to improve the quality of business plans. 
  • Support and manage market research planning and execution
  • Manage third-party partners for data generation and BI tool implementation

Key Responsibilities

    1. Business Data Engineering Management (Commercial & Medical)

    • Data Environment Establishment: Design and implement structured commercial data models aligned with Japan’s data strategy using tools such as Python, R, and SQL, and keep upgrading data infrastructure needed to support agentic AI adoption for evolving technology
    • Data Automation: Lead the automation of commercial data pipelines leveraging Azure Databricks and other cloud-based technologies.
    • Global Data Alignment: Act as the primary liaison with global data teams to ensure consistency in data structures and definitions.
    • Code Review & Optimization: Oversee and refine data generation scripts provided by third-party vendors to ensure quality, performance, and compliance.


    2. Global KPI Communication

    • Monthly Reporting: Deliver monthly product share reports to global stakeholders, highlighting Japan-specific insights and trends with self-service business intelligence (BI) to scale the capability across org
    • Insight Generation: Collaborate with analytics teams to interpret data and provide actionable recommendations based on KPI analysis

    3. Data Governance & Risk Management

    • Governance Leadership: Establish and enforce data governance policies to ensure data integrity, security, and compliance.
    •  Risk Assessment: Evaluate and mitigate risks associated with the integration or removal of tools within the data ecosystem.

    4. AI-Based Commercial Tool Implementation

    • Tool Deployment: Lead the implementation of AI-driven tools into commercial systems in partnership with the Business Analytics Lead and Business Excellence Head.
    • Change Management: Facilitate adoption and training across relevant teams to maximize tool effectiveness and business impact.

    5. CRM tool management/analysis

    • CRM data maintenance and relevant procedures are consistently monitored by DMM/DMS. All procedures should be documented and systematically stored as valuable assets for ViiV Japan. 
    • Qualitative analysis based on CRM data should be conducted to gain a deeper understanding of the current business
