This role is primarily remote, with occasional travel to the offices.
Produces outline system designs and specifications, and overall architectures, typologies, configuration data-bases and design documentation of networks and networking technology within the Infrastructure as a Service hosted solutions. Specifies user/system interfaces, including validation and error correction procedures, processing rules, access, security and audit controls.
Assesses associated risks, and specifies recovery routines and contingency procedures. Translates logical designs into physical designs.
Undertakes routine installations and de-installations of items of hardware and/or soft-ware. Takes action to ensure targets are met within established safety and quality procedures, including, where appropriate, handover to the client.
Conducts tests of hardware and/or soft-ware using supplied test procedures and diagnostic tools. Corrects malfunctions, calling on other experienced colleagues and external resources if required.
Documents details of all hardware/software items that have been installed and removed.
Initiates and monitors actions to investigate and resolve problems in systems and services. Assists with the implementation of agreed remedies and preventative measures.
Specifies user/system interfaces, and translates logical designs into physical designs taking account of target environment, performance requirements and existing systems.
Produces detailed designs and documents all work using required standards, methods and tools, including prototyping tools where appropriate.
Fundamental Knowledge of System Level Design and system life-cycle management
Fundamental Knowledge of IT hardware equipment
Fundamental Knowledge of VMware and NSX
Fundamental Knowledge of network principles, WAN technologies, routing and Global Load balancing
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Fundamental knowledge/experience of Docker or other containerisation runtime
Fundamental knowledge/experience of Kubernetes orchestration
Fundamental knowledge/experience with a Linux based OS in a production environment
Fundamental knowledge/experience with Linux KVM virtualisation in a production environment
Leadership experience and cross department influencing skills
Experience with stakeholder and customer collaboration
Experience / Desirable of automation tools such as ansible and terraform or similar.
Experience / Desirable with REST API interfaces
Experience with infrastructure as a Service and application hosting
Must be able to work ‘On-Call’
Must be able to attain SC and NPPV3 clearances
