The Mammography Technologist performs the Radiological examination of the patient. This responsibility includes the review with the patient of any previous findings, explanation of mammography examination and the actual taking of the images for the Radiologist to make the interpretation of the exam.Patients are to be treated equally and with dignity. This position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and service appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her area.

Requirements:

- Associates Degree or higher education

- Registered Radiologic Technologist (R-RT)

- Certified Mammographer C-MAMM within one year of hir

- BLS/CPR through the American Heart Association

Performs Mammography Examination

  • Performs the mammogram according to established protocol; reviews the films to determine the need for additional views; prepares the films for the radiologist.
  • Performs clinical breast exams according to Mamma Care guidelines and documents accordingly.
  • Completes billing according to policy; records any unusual patient conditions; completes film record preparation as needed.
  • Operates all equipment accurately; troubleshoots equipment issues; calls tech support when errors occur.

Prepares Patient for Procedure

  • Thoroughly explains procedure to patient and/or family member and answers any questions to ease anxiety and assure patient cooperation; interviews patient for history and to complete profile sheet.
  • Administers sound patient care practices according to hospital and department policies and procedures, to ensure the safety of the patients.

Performs Film Quality Control

  • Distinguishes between acceptable and unacceptable radiographs; reviews examinations for patient position, exposure, and technologist's initials, accurately labels images.
  • Verifies information is correct in PACS.

Appropriate Use of Resources

  • Maintains supplies in each mammography room; empties the laundry; cleans the patient surfaces of the mammography units after each patient.
  • Assists other staff when needed.

Performs Additional Duties

  • Obtains patient consent form.
  • Corresponds with referring physician' s office when required.
  • Notifies the patient access specialist of any patient callbacks.
  • Actively participates in staff meeting.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
