Xylem Summer Internships typically last 10-12 weeks (early June – mid Aug) and are an opportunity to get hands-on, professional experience while making a lasting contribution to Xylem as an organization. Our internship program is intended to create a pipeline of talented undergraduate students who are interested in a career in the water innovation technology industry. Interns are our primary talent pool for all full-time early career positions and rotational programs. The Summer Internship is a great opportunity to learn more about Xylem and see if a career in water technology is right for you.

The hourly rate for an intern is dependent on a variety of factors including major, year in school and geographic location. The average hourly rate for an intern is between $21.00 - $27.00/hour. Locations of internships will vary based on the specified project and function. This internship role will be onsite in our facility located in Morton Grove, IL.

The Operations/Manufacturing Engineering Intern will support the deployment of Lean principles and continuous improvement initiatives across operations. This role provides hands-on exposure to process optimization, time studies, routing changes and performance improvement projects while working closely with cross-functional teams

Core Responsibilities:

  • Action routing updates within Xylem's ERP, LN
  • Conduct routing audits within assembly and/or machining for routing accuracy
  • Create/update standard work in collaboration with union workforce and cross-functional team members
  • Action engineering change notices (ECNs) within Global Vault
  • Conduct time studies with cross-functional teams
  • Action workflows related to new component creation/revisions within Xylems ERP, LN
  • Improving ergonomics and operator accessibility
  • Participate in mapping current processes (Value Stream Mapping)
  • Perform root cause analysis (5 Whys, Fishbone, Pareto)
  • Support cross-functional teams with improvement initiatives

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently rising Junior or above pursuing a bachelor’s degree within the specified majors, enrolled at an accredited college or university, legally authorized to work in the U.S without sponsorship, and able to work on-site.
