Weston Hospital’s Operating Room (OR) department is looking to add an OR Service Assistant to their talented team of caregivers. Our caregivers circulate a large variety of complex surgical cases in the 18-suite Operating Room Department, including but not limited to organ transplants, orthopedic, and neurosurgical cases, following established standards, department guidelines and hospital policies and procedures.  


A caregiver in this position works Days + Call, 6:30am-3:30pm 


A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Maintain surgical instrument sets and equipment and ensure proper sterile conditions. 

  • Clean used instruments after surgery. (Process may require assembly and maintenance of some instruments for proper cleaning and sterilization). 

  • Ensure proper sterile conditions, order supplies, stocks, and maintain storage areas in the Operating Room for service. 

  • Assist in transporting patients and room turnover. 

  • Assist RN (Registered Nurse) in maintaining a safe environment for the patient. 

  • Interface daily with physicians, staff, vendor sales representatives, sterile processing, and storeroom as a necessary part of routine activities. 

  • Ensure service specific supply expiration dates are checked monthly. 

  • Coordinate and document equipment repairs and loaner return. 

  • Work as a liaison to educate staff in the proper use and functioning of equipment. 

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • High School or GED 


Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) required, Sterile processing certification.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of body motion to include handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.

  • Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.

  • Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds ad ability to push, pull, and navigate supply carts weighing up to 200 pounds.

  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
