Ford and SK On are investing billions in Kentucky and Tennessee including building three state-of-the-art battery manufacturing facilities between the two campuses at BlueOval City in Tennessee and BlueOval SK Battery Park in Kentucky. These brand-new advanced manufacturing facilities will use Ford’s 100 years of automobile manufacturing expertise and SK On’s 30+ years of electric vehicle battery expertise to become the world’s best battery manufacturer.
About the Opportunity
The Maintenance Technician at BlueOval SK will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be a key member of the start-up team, launching the facility from the ground up.
Wages include:
- $32/hour starting wage
- Opportunity to make up to $38/hour
- $1 Night Shift differential
- Two scheduled increases each year totaling $1/hour increase per hour. Increases are provided until employee reaches the max of the established pay range.
- Two performance bonus payments per year, total of 5% of annual salary

Key Areas of Responsibility:
- Inspects and checks equipment for proper operating condition, makes necessary adjustments, logs test readings, and maintains, repairs, or replaces all essential equipment parts
- Capable of working with outside contractors for trouble shooting procedures
- Self-motivated person that works with little direction
- Understanding urgency to trouble shoot machines and bring production back online
- Performs miscellaneous maintenance duties as required
- Read blueprints, hydraulic and pneumatic schematics, mechanical/electrical diagrams, and technical orders to determine methods and sequences of assembly
- Align, fit, and assemble component parts, using hand tools, power tools, fixtures, templates
- Operate metalworking machines to fabricate housings, jigs, fittings, and fixtures
- Repair, rework, and calibrate hydraulic and pneumatic assemblies and systems to meet operational specifications and tolerances
- Prepare parts sketches and write work orders
- Review project instructions and specifications to identify, modify and plan requirements fabrication, assembly and testing
- Devise, fabricate, and assemble new or modified mechanical components for products such as industrial machinery or equipment, and measuring instruments
- Analyze test results in relation to design or rated specifications and test objectives, and modify or adjust equipment to meet specifications
- Confer with engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information
- Research, evaluate, install, operate, and maintain mechanical products, equipment, systems and processes to meet requirements, applying knowledge of engineering principles
- Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation, and to make recommendations
- Oversee installation, operation, maintenance, and repair to ensure that machines and equipment are installed and functioning according to specifications
- Perform preventative maintenance and calibration of equipment and systems
- Identify and resolve equipment malfunctions, working with manufacturers and field representatives as necessary to procure replacement parts
- Maintain system logs and manuals to document testing and operation of equipment
- Strict adherence to lock out tag out procedures
- Replaces or repairs machine belts, chains, or cables.
- Removes dust, dirt, grease, and waste material from machines.
- Connects wire to motors, fixtures, and other electrical equipment, replaces switches and fuses, and splices wire and insulates wire with friction tape
- Other tasks as assigned
Work Environment and Essential Functions
BlueOval SK facilities are some of the most advanced manufacturing environments in the industry. Our typical working environment is climate-controlled year-round to facilitate successful production and keep our team members comfortable while at work.
Physical demands include:
- Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours a day
- Frequently and repetitively, lift, push and carry up to 35 lbs.
- The ability to carry 20 lbs. up and down stairs.
- Ability to stand and walk for up to 12 hours/day, including over varied and uneven terrain.
- Stoop, lay, bend, reach, squat, kneel, crouch, twist and crawl for extended periods of time, including up to 12 hours/day.
- Climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding or other high structures.
- Ability to find issues in a work process and receive safety signals using sight, touch, and hearing.
- Wearing Personal Protective Equipment and operating in a sterile environment including but not limited to: safety glasses, safety shoes, safety suits, bump caps, hearing protection, full-face respirators, gloves, and adhering to prescribed safety rules and guidelines.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented production or manufacturing environment, including exhibiting strong interpersonal and communication skills with your teammates.
- Ability and willingness to maintain a safe and collaborative work environment.
- Ability to work quickly while maintaining a high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- High School Diploma or GED (General Education Development)
- Industrial Maintenance Certificate, Journeyman Card, or Associates Degree in related field
- Must have Industrial Maintenance Certificate, Journeyman Card, Associates Degree in related field, and a minimum of 4 years of Industrial Maintenance experience (preferred automotive, chemical, food, etc.), or
- 7 years or more of Industrial Maintenance experience (preferred automotive, chemical, food, etc) will be considered without a certificate or degree
Preferred Experience:
- Experience in Industrial Maintenance with emphasis on electrical controls
- Intermediate knowledge of PLC programming, robotics, and vision controls
- Intermediate knowledge of Electrical Theory for AC/DC circuits, Motor Controls (VFD, Servo)
- Fundamental understanding of mechanical maintenance, pneumatics, and hydraulics
