Mechanics Bank is currently searching for a Database Administration Director to join our team. Here at Mechanics Bank, we value connection, partnership, long term relationships and working together in person. This role can work remote or onsite within our California footprint.

The Database Administration Director is responsible for overseeing the administration and management of the bank’s SQL and Oracle database environments. This role involves leading a team of database administrators, ensuring database performance, security, and reliability. The Database Administration Director will work closely with other IT teams and business units to support the bank's data needs and drive database-related projects and improvements.

What you will do:

Leadership & Team Management:
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of database administrators.
  • Coordinate and manage database team activities, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and IT strategies.
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide feedback to team members.
Database Administration:
  • Oversee the administration, maintenance, and support of SQL and Oracle databases.
  • Ensure high availability, reliability, and performance of databases through proactive monitoring and optimization.
  • Manage database backups, restores, and disaster recovery processes.
  • Implement and manage database security measures, including user access controls and encryption.
Project Management:
  • Lead database-related projects including upgrades, migrations, and new implementations.
  • Collaborate with application developers, system architects, and other stakeholders to support database requirements and optimize performance.
  • Develop and maintain documentation related to database configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting.
Compliance & Risk Management:
  • Ensure databases comply with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Monitor and address potential security threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Conduct regular audits and assessments to ensure compliance and risk mitigation.
Performance Tuning & Troubleshooting:
  • Analyze and optimize database performance, including query tuning and indexing.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex database issues and performance problems.
  • Implement and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for database health and efficiency.
Continuous Improvement:
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in database technologies.
  • Propose and implement improvements to database processes and technologies.
  • Drive initiatives to enhance database reliability, performance, and scalability.

Who you are:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in database administration with a strong focus on SQL and Oracle databases required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a management or lead role overseeing database administration teams required.
  • Advanced degree or certifications (e.g., Oracle Certified Professional, Microsoft Certified Database Administrator) preferred.
  • Expertise in SQL and Oracle database management, including installation, configuration, and maintenance.
  • Strong knowledge of database performance tuning, backup/recovery, and security practices.
  • Experience with database tools and technologies (e.g., Oracle Enterprise Manager, SQL Server Management Studio).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.

Pay Range: $128,000 - $190,000 annually

Final compensation package will be determined by the work experience, education, and/or skill level of the applicant along with internal equity and alignment with geographic market data.
