Role Definition
Component product and team owner of Caterpillar wireless ranging technology that is comprised of several devices used as mounted on site infrastructure, mounted on machines and worn by personnel to conduct ranging in our autonomous, automated and safety products in underground and surface mining operations. As product owner, you are responsible for the development life cycle: maintaining current to driving development of the next generation of the product.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of engineers that is responsible for establishing requirements, executing design, certifying for specific country operation, sourcing, delivering and maintaining this wireless product.

  • Overseeing project progress and costs; communicating status with suppliers, stakeholders and participating functional areas; addressing and resolving problems.

  • Directing project staffing; motivating and developing project team and team members.

  • Lead these efforts utilizing Caterpillar New Product Introduction and Advanced Quality processes.


Degree Requirement

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum.

Project Management:

  • Conducts regular and ad-hoc project reviews with project team, sponsors, and clients.

  • Maintains open communication among project participants and interested parties.

  • Communicates reporting requirements; creates monitoring and control mechanisms.


Electronics Engineering:

  • Anticipates the challenges and opportunities associated with creating printed circuit boards and electronic assemblies

  • Advises on matching methodology, materials and tools to the electronic product that is being built.


Supplier Management:

  • Facilitates supplier partnering arrangements that share risk and reward.

  • Monitors supplier performance; works to resolve discrepancies between performance and agreements.

  • Builds and maintains partnerships with suppliers.

  • Evaluates issues and maintains supplier relationships as appropriate; works with purchasing and legal departments.

  • Ensures the fulfillment of report and record-keeping requirements.


Troubleshooting Technical Problems:

  • Evaluates business impact of failure and the criticality and timing of needed resolution.

  • Coaches others how to resolve communication problems in multi-vendor environment.

  • Applies specific techniques for isolating a problem and defining resolution approach.

Top candidates will have:

  • Strong communication and organisational skills that will be utilized in the planning, execution, and communication process of an electronic component development program from working level engineers to senior leaders.

  • Ability to establish a vision for the product and work a generational delivery plan.

  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills to go along with degree from an accredited engineering program.

  • Previous experience in delivering electronic products to production as a working level engineer and/or as a lead engineer

  • Previous experience with supplier interaction, particularly contract manufacturers.

  • Previous experience in system integration of electronic components.

  • This position requires the candidate to work 5 days in office
