Nutrition Assistant

A caregiver in this position works days/evenings/nights/weekends from 6:30AM – 2:00PM or 11:00AM – 7:00PM.  


A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Set up, deliver and serve food.  

  • Assist with daily dietary requests and needs of patients, visitors and caregivers.  

  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area.  

  • Prepare, set up and replenish steam table, salad bar, cooler, baker’s racks, coffee area, condiments and silverware throughout the meal period.  

  • Make pizzas to order and maintain all ingredients.  

  • Set up and support catering events.  

  • Maintain the register and proper cash handling with overages/shortages of less than 1.5% of total drawer.  

  • Ensure proper food temperature using calibrated thermometers.  

  • Rotate, prepare and label all leftover food.  

  • Set up, serve and collect dinner patient trays.  

  • Complete cleaning assignments.  


Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Good reading and writing skills and ability to add, subtract and handle other arithmetic functions.  

  • Basic computer skills.  

  • Can accurately measure and portion formula and food.  


Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • High school diploma or GED. 

  • Two years of experience in nutrition in a healthcare setting.

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to stand on feet for 8 hours; push carts loaded with food and service related equipment and stock; able to lift items up to 25 pounds.
