Job Summary:

As a Human Resources Consultant, you will provide expert HR guidance and support to various clients across California and other states. You will partner with businesses to develop, implement, and oversee HR policies, procedures, and practices that align with legal requirements and best practices. Your role is to ensure that clients are compliant with California employment laws, manage employee relations, and support organizational development through strategic HR initiatives, including payroll management and benefits administration.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Consulting: Serve as a trusted advisor to clients on HR matters including recruitment, employee relations, compliance, performance management, payroll, and benefits administration.

  • Compliance: Ensure clients are compliant with all federal, state, and local employment laws, particularly those specific to California (e.g., CFRA, FMLA, AB 5, etc.).

  • Payroll Management: Provide guidance on payroll processing, including compliance with California wage and hour laws, overtime regulations, and payroll tax requirements. Assist clients in selecting and managing payroll systems.

  • Benefits Administration: Advise clients on benefits strategy, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other employee benefits. Ensure compliance with COBRA, ACA, and other benefits-related regulations.

  • Policy Development: Develop, implement, and review HR policies and procedures tailored to the unique needs of each client.

  • Employee Relations: Assist clients with resolving complex employee relations issues, conducting investigations, and managing disciplinary actions.

  • Training and Development: Design and deliver training programs on topics such as sexual harassment prevention, diversity and inclusion, and performance management.

  • HR Audits: Conduct HR audits to assess compliance and efficiency of HR practices, including payroll and benefits, and provide recommendations for improvement.

  • Recruitment: Support clients in developing effective recruitment strategies, job descriptions, and interview processes.

  • Performance Management: Advise on performance management systems and processes, including setting goals, conducting appraisals, and managing underperformance.

  • Documentation: Maintain detailed records and documentation related to client consultations, HR processes, payroll, benefits, and legal compliance.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.

  • Or in process of receiving an HR degree graduating soon.

  • Minimum of 5 years of HR experience, preferably in a consulting role, with specific experience in payroll and benefits administration. 

  • Strong knowledge of California employment laws and regulations.

  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification preferred.

  • Proficient in payroll software and benefits management systems.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple client accounts.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Proficient in HR software and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Willingness to travel occasionally within California.

 

Compensation:

  • Competitive salary based on experience. (Currently budgeted was approximately $66,560.00 salary per position + client retention bonuses that can range from $7k-20k per year residual and additional earned with adding new clients)

Annual Salary: $66,500 - $66,560
