A Day in the Life

At Medtronic, you will help shape the digital backbone of our manufacturing and quality systems. As a Software Engineer I, you will contribute to the design and development of web services and software interfaces connecting production equipment to Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES). Working in a regulated medical device environment, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, scalable, and compliant software solutions that support operational excellence and patient safety.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:

  • Design, develop, test, debug, and implement software components, tools, and utilities supporting web services and equipment-to-MES interfaces
  • Contribute to system software design by translating functional and technical requirements into robust solutions
  • Support integration of manufacturing equipment with MES to improve data flow, traceability, and process efficiency
  • Ensure system improvements are successfully implemented, validated, and monitored to enhance performance and reliability
  • Develop and follow software engineering policies, standards, and procedures in compliance with internal and regulatory requirements
  • Participate in multiple phases of the software development lifecycle (requirements, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and support) based on program needs
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, automation, IT, and quality teams in a global environment.

Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field
  • Experience with web service development (REST APIs, HTTP/HTTPS, JSON/XML)
  • Knowledge of Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and software interfaces with industrial equipment or automation systems
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language commonly used for backend or integration development (e.g., C#, Java, Python)
  • Familiarity with software development lifecycle practices, including version control, testing, and documentation
  • Ability to work in a regulated environment and follow defined processes, standards, and procedures.
