We are looking for you to join our team as a Mechanical Engineering Manager 2 based out of Sunnyvale, CA. What you’ll get to do:

The Mechanical Engineering Manager 2 is responsible for providing engineering leadership and technical direction to a Marine Systems engineering team which consists of a staff of approximately 13 Mechanical Design Engineers.  Responsibilities include oversight of production support on products such as Steam Turbine Generators. Leading a diverse team of engineers in the areas of Machine Design and development. Engineering support of development testing and manufacturing of rotating machinery used for Naval Propulsion and Power Generation.  The position responsibilities also include management of time keeping, performance reviews, staffing and resource planning, training, and team engagement for the team.

Responsibilities also include:

  • Accountable for the daily execution of engineering tasks.
  • Ensure the business is appropriately staffed and enable resource sharing across multiple business areas.
  • Lead the development and implementation of the technical roadmap strategy that aligns with future business capture strategies.
  • Ensure work product complies to established design guidelines and processes.
  • Partner with other engineering managers on skillset development strategies and practices pertinent to the entire engineering department.
  • Drive predictable financial and program results.
  • Ensure research and development investments are aligned with strategic imperatives.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 8 years of engineering experience; OR a Master’s Degree in STEM with 6 years of engineering experience; OR a PhD in STEM with 3 years of engineering experience.   
  • US Citizenship required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
  • 2 years’ experience managing technical teams.
  • Strong fundamentals in Design Engineering for Rotating Machinery.
  • Experience in technical, program, project, or functional/people management.
  • Production issue resolution experience.
  • Ability to work onsite in Sunnyvale, CA for a minimum of 4 days per week.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master Degree in Mechanical Engineering with engineering or technical management experience.
  • Experience as a Technical Lead, Project Manager, or other demonstrated leadership role related to program execution.
  • Strong engineering background with demonstrated experience managing through design and production.
  • Experience with large scale electric motor and generator design, especially in naval applications.
  • Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), requirements development, or technical project management experience preferred.
  • Understanding and knowledge of Agile (SCRUM) techniques and activities.
  • Knowledge of Design Engineering processes, procedures and work instructions required to support both management and engineering tasks.
  • Experience with proposals and Earned Value management.

Salary Range: $138,100.00 - $207,100.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
