We are currently looking for a strategic Divisional Risk Advisor to join our Global Risk and Security (GR&S) division. GR&S was formed in 2018 to enable Vanguard’s business strategy, protect Vanguard’s clients, crew and assets, and steward a risk-smart culture at Vanguard. Our divisional risk teams leverage enterprise-wide insights, deep expertise, and trusted advice to drive risk-informed decisions. Risk Advisors provide risk expertise and advice to support a division or area as well as effective risk guidance, oversight, and assurance services to enterprise and divisional partners. This role will support the Client Experience and Digital (CXD) business in Vanguard’s retail client division.

In this role you will:

  • Partner with senior business leaders on top strategic priorities, including new product development, growth initiatives, and business transformation efforts.
  • Manage the efficiency and effectiveness of risk management within the business. Set measurable goals and examine ways to raise standards, to increase quality and to improve overall risk management efforts of the team. Monitor progress and measure departmental success in identifying and managing risk exposure.
  • Lead and assist the business in the development, implementation, and management of short- and long-term risk management strategies in accordance with department goals and objectives as well as standard risk management policies and procedures.  Make recommendations for developing new risk management strategies for the business.  Provide consultation, facilitation and analytical support to the divisional management team as new products, services, processes, and procedures are developed to ensure risk is properly mitigated.
  • Coordinate and work closely with management in Legal, Compliance, Divisional Risk, Enterprise Security and Fraud, and Internal Audit to develop best-in-class risk management strategies and ensuring business practices comply with the various regulatory and control procedures. Develop effective working relationships with contacts throughout the company on a variety of risk-related issues.
  • Assess the design of existing controls and make recommendations, leverage industry best practice for improvement as needed.  Understand the risk management framework and utilize the core concepts when discussing risk exposures with the business. 
  • Support the Risk Analytics team in the performance of risk assessments by serving as an advisor on business risk exposures.
  • Work with business unit teams to mitigate risks and optimize process efficiency.  Use industry best practice knowledge to design effective controls.  
  • Identify, analyze, and track relevant internal risk events, including losses, gains, and saves.
  • Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
     

What it takes:

  • Bachelor's degree with emphasis in business, finance or accounting, related certification or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • 5+ years of related work experience.  Experience in operations management, compliance, risk management, or auditing experience from which knowledge of internal control and risk management was obtained, is preferred.
  • Demonstrated conceptual and strategic thinking while working through ambiguity.
  • Senior-level stakeholder management.
  • Expertise in risk management principles and experience in applying risk management concepts. Agile risk management experience strongly preferred.
