JOB SUMMARY

Oversees multi‑jurisdictional sales and use tax compliance while ensuring accurate filings, supporting audits, leading exemption management and improving processes through strong collaboration and automation

Job Profile Summary

Responsible for overseeing all aspects of sales and use tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions. This role ensures accurate and timely filing of returns, supports audits, manages exemption certificate administration, and drives process improvements and automation initiatives

The position partners closely with internal stakeholders, external advisors, and taxing authorities to mitigate risk, ensure compliance, and improve efficiency.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Manage, mentor and develop staff supporting sales and use tax compliance

  • Manage and oversee the preparation, review, and timely filing of sales and use tax returns across state and local jurisdictions

  • Ensure accurate tax calculation, reporting, and remittance in compliance with applicable laws and regulations

  • Oversee use tax accrual processes and tax account reconciliation

  • Manage exemption certificate collection, validation, and maintenance processes

  • Monitor tax law changes and assess compliance impacts

  • Provide direction and/or information related to sales and use tax compliance and its procedures that affect sales and use tax audit outcomes

  • Assist with audit responses, data requests, and documentation

  • Drive process improvements and automation initiatives

  • Collaborate with sales and use tax team and cross‑functional departments to enhance tax compliance and those business processes outside the Tax function

  • Assist in the resolution of assessments, refunds, and disputes with taxing authorities

  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures, controls, and documentation

  • Support special projects, integrations, and strategic tax initiatives as needed

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or a related business field, with relevant professional experience including the following:

Work Experience

  • Extensive experience with corporate sales and use tax policies, procedures, and internal controls

  • Experience managing multi-state sales and use tax compliance

  • Strong working knowledge of state and local sales and use tax laws, regulations, and filing requirements

  • Experience managing and/or supporting sales and use tax audits

  • Experience managing, coaching, or serving as a team lead for tax professionals

  • Experience researching, interpreting, and applying governmental regulations, professional publications, and tax authority correspondence

  • Experience in the use and function of office equipment including microcomputers and applicable software

  • Experience with tax engines and ERP systems

  • Solid understanding of corporate organizational structures and financial reporting processes

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to advise, influence, negotiate, and communicate effectively across functions.

  • Experience developing tax analyses, conducting meetings, and delivering presentations to both technical and non‑technical audiences

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to apply calculations/formulas used to prepare tax account reconciliations, accruals and payments

  • Ability to supervise, lead, and/or delegate work assignments.

  • Knowledge of personnel policies and procedures

  • Ability to communicate and/or exchange verbal and written information or instructions; conduct oral presentations

  • Solid understanding of corporate organizational structures and financial reporting processes
