Job Description:

What does a successful Android Engineer do at Fiserv ?                                                         

We are looking for a skilled Android Engineer to join our development team. As an Android Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining robust POS Android applications specifically tailored for fast-paced restaurant environments. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver outstanding mobile experiences and ensure the reliability and performance of our mission-critical restaurant apps.

Android App Development: Collaborate with our product and design teams to develop new Android applications and enhance existing ones.

Coding: Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code in Kotlin and Java, following best practices and coding standards.

UI/UX Design Integration: Implement responsive and visually appealing user interfaces based on design specifications.

Performance Optimization: Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks and ensure the app runs smoothly across different devices and screen sizes.

Bug Fixing: Troubleshoot and debug issues, providing timely solutions to ensure a seamless user experience.

Code Reviews: Participate in code reviews to maintain code quality and mentor junior developers.

Testing: Write unit tests and collaborate with QA engineers to conduct comprehensive testing of Android applications.

Version Control: Use Git or other version control systems to manage codebase and collaborate effectively with team members.

Documentation: Maintain clear and up-to-date documentation for code, processes, and project-related information.

Restaurant Hardware Integration: Develop and maintain integrations with restaurant-specific hardware, including receipt printers, card terminals, and kitchen display systems (KDS).

Offline-First Data Sync: Build and optimize offline-first synchronization logic to ensure restaurant operations continue uninterrupted during network outages.

Secure Payments: Implement and maintain secure payment processing workflows, ensuring compliance and data protection.

POS Feature Development: Design and develop core restaurant features, including complex order management, dynamic menu customization, and real-time table management.

Stay Current: Stay up-to-date with Android development trends, best practices, and emerging technologies to continually improve our apps.

What you will need to have:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
• Proven 5-10 Years of experience in Android app development, with a strong portfolio of published apps.
• Proficiency in Kotlin and Java.
• Experience with Android Studio and Gradle.
• Strong understanding of Android design principles, UI/UX guidelines, and Material Design.
• Familiarity with RESTful APIs and third-party libraries.
• Solid debugging and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of version control systems (e.g., Git).
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong attention to detail and a passion for delivering high-quality software.
• Experience with payment processing integrations, including EMV standards and PCI-DSS compliance.
• Familiarity with POS systems or retail/restaurant technology software.
• Experience with Bluetooth, USB, and Network peripheral integration for hardware communication.

What would be great to have:

• Experience with cross-platform development frameworks like Flutter or React Native.
• Knowledge of mobile architecture patterns (e.g., MVVM, MVP, MVC).
• Familiarity with continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
• Contributions to open-source Android projects.
• Experience with performance profiling and optimization.
