Position Overview
The Business Systems Engineer supports the design, configuration, enhancement, and ongoing operation of SWIB’s front‑ and middle‑office business systems, with primary emphasis on the Charles River Investment Management System (CRIMS/CRD). This role collaborates with Trading, Portfolio Management, Operations, Compliance, and Technology teams to ensure that Charles River and related platforms are effectively integrated, well supported, and aligned with business needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the configuration and maintenance of the Charles River platform, including workflows, data flows, and system integrations.
- Support troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement of system performance and reliability.
- Contribute to enhancements, upgrades, and implementation efforts related to Charles River.
- Participate in software testing and validation activities to ensure the quality and stability of system releases.
- Work with Trading, Portfolio Management, Compliance, Operations, and Technology partners to gather requirements and translate them into effective system solutions.
- Engage in discussions around process improvement and automation opportunities within Charles River and associated systems.
- Support the evolution of front- and middle-office architecture centered on Charles River.
- Assist with integrations involving market data providers and downstream platforms including Bloomberg, FactSet, SimCorp, Eagle, and custodial partners.
- Maintain system documentation covering workflows, configurations, and integration points.
- Apply quality assurance, risk-management, and best-practice standards throughout system change activities.

Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required (Information Systems, Computer Science, Finance, or related field preferred).
- 2–5 years of experience within the investment management industry, preferably supporting portfolio management, trading, or compliance functions.
- Hands-on experience with an Order Management System (OMS); Charles River experience strongly preferred.
- Understanding of trading workflows, compliance processes, allocations, and integration concepts.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively across cross-functional business and technology teams.

The position requires U.S. work authorization.
Pursuant to our Hybrid Remote Work Policy, all staff have the flexibility to work remotely, but are required to have a weekly presence in our offices, the frequency of which is dependent on their distance from office. Staff are not required to reside locally; however, we offer relocation reimbursement to the Dane County area per our policy.
