Position Requirements
RESPONSIBILITIES
- The primary responsibility of the person in this role is to create new, organic Hospital and Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) Anesthesia service clients.
- Secondary to the new business development is identifying and bringing Anesthesia physician practices to NAPA for acquisition (M&A / WIP).
- Grow new business through a defined strategic plan and then execute; be a “hunter.”
- Have a solid understanding of what currently drives healthcare operational and financial decisions
- Demonstrate finesse in guiding complex and often politically charged business transactions between Physicians and Hospitals
- Successfully work with Physician executives at both the client level and internally
- Develop market insights and actively contribute to the leadership “think tank.”
- Quickly create strong and trusted working relationships with internal leaders; both MD’s and lay
- Communicate persuasively, both in writing and verbally
- Fit well into the culture of NAPA
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A significant number of years in sales, business development, operations, or mergers and acquisitions (M&A) role where the primary customer was the hospital, hospital system, ambulatory surgical center, or large physician practice
- Experience with complex, consultative, and long sales cycles involving numerous constituents including CSuite executives and physicians
- A successful and sustained track record in the Healthcare Provider space of creating new and profitable business deals for either outsourced services, consulting services, joint ventures, mergers, or acquisitions
- Specific experience focusing on hospital surgery or critical care departments would be beneficial
- Demonstrated understanding of strategic marketing, business, and financial principles
- Proven ability to build and maintain long-term customer-focused relationships and the proactive identification of customer needs and new business opportunities
- Strong existing relationships with executive leaders of provider organizations such as Hospitals, Health Systems, Integrated Delivery Networks (IDN’s), Ambulatory Surgical Centers (ASC’s), and Physician groups
- Ability to quickly build confidence and credibility with customers and internal team members
- Excellent personal communication and presentation skills
- An ability to develop winning content (pitch decks and proposals)
- Project management acumen; demonstrated by internally and externally “shepherding” complex deals from identification to close
- Solid financial acumen to be able to quantify the impact of business problems and their solutions
- An undergraduate degree is required. Additional education such as a master’s degree in business and/or healthcare is desirable
- Ability and willingness to travel 2 to 3 nights per week on average

The Business Development Officer is a mission-critical role and is part of the corporate leadership team responsible for growing the organization through creating profitable and operable business partnerships.
The VPs of Business Development are aligned with one or more operational regions. Each region has a full-time, dedicated Physician leader, full-time Business (operations) leader as well as assigned talent acquisition and credentialing staff, allowing the VPs of Business Development to capitalize on existing relationships, and market knowledge. This approach to the market is more rifle than shotgun.
