JOB DESCRIPTION

Materials Analyst (Inventory Analyst)

Location: West Point, Georgia

About the Role

As a Materials Analyst, you will play a key role in keeping production running smoothly by ensuring the right materials are available at the right time—without excess cost or waste. In this role, you’ll combine data analysis, supplier coordination, and inventory management to support a fast-paced manufacturing environment operating under just-in-time (JIT) principles.

You will work closely with production, suppliers, and cross-functional teams to maintain accurate inventory, resolve supply issues, and continuously improve material flow and planning processes. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys solving supply chain challenges, working with data, and making a visible impact on daily operations.

Key Responsibilities

Inventory Planning & ERP Management

  • Maintain and update the ERP system across key materials functions, including Item Master data, Bills of Material (BOM), ship-to locations, and inventory parameters.

  • Create and manage daily production schedules, ensuring production output is accurately recorded and posted in the ERP system.

  • Monitor inventory levels and material availability to align with production schedules and customer demand.

  • Perform daily cycle counts, investigate discrepancies, and reconcile inventory variances to ensure high levels of accuracy.

  • Track inventory inaccuracies and drive root cause analysis and corrective actions to prevent recurring issues.

  • Review daily MRP supply reports and take proactive action to prevent shortages or production disruptions.

Supplier & Customer Coordination

  • Partner closely with suppliers to track orders, manage supply requirements, and resolve delivery issues.

  • Communicate No Surprise Forms to customers when supply shortages occur, ensuring transparency and proactive problem resolution.

  • Identify and address customer cumulative (CUM) inaccuracies and supplier discrepancies.

  • Communicate DMRs (Discrepant Material Reports) to suppliers and coordinate dispositions for quality hold materials.

  • Track supplier communication related to engineering changes proposed by program management.

Cost Control & Operational Performance

  • Track and report premium freight events and downtime caused by supplier issues.

  • Create debit memos for cost recovery related to supplier performance issues.

  • Support inventory optimization by driving improvements in inventory valuation and inventory turns for assigned product lines.

Data Analysis & Performance Reporting

  • Report daily on key materials performance metrics, including inventory valuation, cycle count results, inventory accuracy, and past-due parts.

  • Use data and reporting tools to identify trends and support continuous improvement initiatives across materials and supply chain operations.

Safety & Compliance

  • Participate in Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) investigations and 8D problem-solving processes to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.

  • Ensure compliance with all safety procedures and environmental standards within assigned production areas.

  • Report accidents, occupational illnesses, or safety risks to supervisors and support a safe working environment for all team members.

  • Ensure compliance with BOS and MMSA procedures established by Supply Chain Management.

What You’ll Bring (Must-Haves)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field, or 2–3 years of equivalent experience in a Materials Analyst or inventory planning role.

  • Experience working in a manufacturing or JIT environment (strongly preferred).

  • Working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or QAD.

  • Strong analytical, forecasting, and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analysis tools.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally with production, suppliers, and leadership.
