Job Description:

An Aerospace Underwriter is responsible for the evaluation and pricing of a variety of aerospace insurance risks.  Under general direction underwrites assigned aerospace risks within individual authority across numerous insurance product lines which may include pleasure and business and corporate aircraft, sightseeing, charter, aerial photography and survey, airports, aerial application (agriculture), unmanned aerial systems, (drones), flight schools and training providers.   The Underwriter is the primary point of contact for new and renewal business and will interact daily with individuals from other departments and brokers.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for marketing and underwriting a book of business with partner brokers
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external business partners.
  • Meet renewal retention goals through strong negotiation and communication skills which may involve onsite meetings with brokers, clients, or centers of influence.
  • Identify and target new business and cross sell opportunities by building relationships with producers and account managers.
  • Document underwriting files accordingly per authority statements and guidelines.
  • Assist in annual audits for specific product lines.
  • Use underwriting and producer management tools to meet profitability goals.
  • Make independent sales calls to build strong relationships and grow the book of business.
  • Review, evaluate, and recommend modifications to underwriting guidelines and workflows.
  • Engage in various underwriting and marketing projects to improve overall company results.

This role will be responsible for the underwriting complex risks across various product lines:

  • Demonstrates proven ability to develop and maintain exceptional working and production relationships. 
  • Makes independent sales calls to market and cross-market products.  Manages an assigned portfolio of renewal business. 
  • Assists in the establishment and refinement of underwriting workflow. Coordinates work activities to achieve the volume expected to meet operational requirements.  May monitor performance of staff members according to established monitoring standards.
  • Assists in the training of new staff.
  • In collaboration the senior leaders and HR, implement tools and strategies to attract and retain top industry talent and develop high performing teams.

What we’re looking for:

  • 5 years + of aerospace insurance experience. 
  • Proven strategic leadership skills in developing vision and purpose, driving for results and leading effective teams.
  • Oversight of multiple products and geographies preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of the Aerospace business including product features, forms, regulatory environment, and risks
  • Knowledge of market segmentation, portfolio management, and distribution.
  • Demonstrated excellent marketing, influencing, negotiating and communication skills.

For positions based in New York City, the base salary range is $70,000 - $95,000. In addition, the position is eligible for a bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan.
