The Medical Resident is a physician in training who provides care in inpatient and outpatient settings, including diagnosing, managing, and treating health conditions. They develop and learn the skills necessary for their chosen specialty through didactic sessions, reading and providing direct patient care under the supervision of the Medical Staff (the attending physicians) and more senior trainees. As part of their training program, medical residents are given progressively greater responsibility according to their level of education, ability and experience. They may serve on a team providing direct patient care, or may be part of a team providing consultative or diagnostic services. He/she is dedicated to providing excellent patient care.
Essential Functions (Principal Duties and Job Responsibilities):
- Evaluate patients, obtain the medical history and perform physical examinations
- Develop plan of care with attendee and other trainees
- Document the provision of patient care as required by hospital/clinic policy
- Write orders for diagnostic studies and therapeutic interventions as specified in the medical center bylaws and rules/regulations.
- Interpret the results of laboratory and other diagnostic testing
- Request consultation for diagnostic studies, the evaluation by other physicians, physical/rehabilitation therapy, specialized nursing care, and social services.
- Participate in procedures performed at the bedside, in the operating room or procedure suite under appropriate supervision
- Initiate and coordinate hospital admission and discharge planning
- Discuss the patient's status and plan of care with the attending and the team regularly
- Help provide for the educational needs and supervision of any junior residents and medical students
- Be governed by the specific role of each resident year which varies with their clinical rotation, experience, years of clinical training, the patient's illness, clinical demands and independence.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, the Google Suite, and GIS
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, prioritize duties and work closely with other programs/projects.
- Be well organized, detail-oriented and have the ability to handle a variety of tasks simultaneously with a problem-solving approach.
- Experience working effectively with clients from diverse background, with sensitivity to people from diverse communities.
- Literacy and experience with computer office programs (MS Work, MS Excel, MS Outlook)
Excellent written, verbal and telephone skills
