Job Summary:

The SHEQ Manager manages, implement, verify SHEQ profile, culture, systems, and policies of Xylem, also manages all SHEQ activities within a department including but not limited to quality plans for all the raw materials, parts and finished products. Also manages all SHEQ activities related to in process of production & service within and outside the facility. They are also responsible for the efficient and effective implementation of the response process to customers in terms of technical inquiries and support, and the corrective and preventive actions related to customers’ claims and warranty process. They are accountable for developing and implementing the SHEQ Strategic and Operational plans.

Manage HSE Management systems for Southern Africa. Implementing and verifying compliance with the provisions of the HSE management systems, policies implemented within Xylem. Ensure the safe operation of each area and provide a link between the Xylem policies and the related areas; The SHEQ Manager will be responsible for ensuring a safe place of work, documenting and reviewing risk assessments, maintaining the accident record book, ensuring compliance with HSE regulations.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (includes key and additional responsibilities:

Quality

  • Manages over-all manufacturing quality plan to include but not limited to inspection (e.g. visual and dimensional) and testing (e.g. performance tests and in-house/out-sourced laboratory tests) of all products and parts produced in South Africa Facility

  • ​Manage in-coming, in-process and final inspections. Ensure that all inspection hold-points are properly implemented.

  • Ensure that all special customer requirements are given higher priority of compliance against the standard assembly / test requirement. Special customer requirements are included in the Work Orders issued to production. 

  • Design and develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) for processes/procedures, analyses and validates existing protocols and/or recommends and implements necessary improvement.

  • Lead over-all management systems of the company which includes QMS (ISO9001). Standardization of processes and systems to realize benefits of economies of scale, harmonization of information and simplification of processes through application of international standards such as ISO9001.

  • Manage on-time closure of customer claims related to quality and coming up of an A3/8D as needed

  • Role is devoted to process improvement and to support the change activities.

  • Sample approval from internal and external production: manage the status of the component approval for either new products or new suppliers

  • Execute other jobs that may be assigned by the Plant Manager/Site Leader from time to time.

Health, Safety and Environment

  • ​Lead over-all management systems of the company which includes EMS (ISO14001), and HSE (ISO45001).

  • Ensure that Environment, Safety, Health and Security activities are carried out in compliance with Xylem policies, procedures, and practices, of all sites within South Africa: local laws and regulations and other requirements (such as customers’ requirements).

  • Ensure that all applicable internal (for ex. EHS metrics) and external reporting requirements (to the local authorities) are performed accurately and in a timely manner.

  • Make appropriate notifications to the MET management and the emerging market EHS Director, regarding significant accidents, injuries, fires, and other occurrences at the facility.

  • Report unsafe act and conditions and work with management to initiate corrective actions for EHS program non-compliance.

  • Provide assistance, consultation and coaching to managers and employees in the implementation of EHS programs.

  • Access and review on-site and off-site areas of operations for compliance with EHS policies.

  • Ensure that all company sites comply with organizational policies, procedures and practices in areas of safety, health, environment and quality.

  • Manage the EHS training program as required by Xylem requirements and local laws and regulations.

  • Can be selected and participate to conduct internal EHS audit at selected sites together with the EHS Audit Lead.

  • Role is devoted to process improvement and to support the change activities.

  • Execute other jobs that may be assigned by the Plant Manager/Site Leader from time to time.

  • Prepare status reports on safety, health, environment, and quality at company sites and communicate these to relevant stakeholders. Internal and external, participate in meetings and forums, such as the monthly Safety meeting.

  • Determine KPI’s in the portfolios and ensure company meets performance targets approved by the company Executive.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical. Electrical) or equivalent qualification in any of the following: Safety, Health, Environment or Quality Post graduate management qualification or equivalent will be desirable.

  • SAMTRAC or equivalent

Legal liability

  • Knowledge in different ISO Management Systems (ISO 9001, ISO 14000, ISO 45000)

  • ISO 45001 internal auditor

  • ISO 14001 internal auditor

  • Project Management skills

  • Analytical and mathematical mind, capable of evaluating and solving various complex problems

Experience

  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in management role in SHEQ management and business support services.

  • Experience having dealt with countries outside of South Africa would be beneficial.

  • Knowledge of and competence in the provision of SHEQ management services.

  • Knowledge and competence in the development and implementation of behavioral based safety programs and process safety programs.

  • Ability to read and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and governmental regulations.
