Position Purpose
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Information Technology, the incumbent works at the highest technical level to ensure that systems are in place (hardware, software, data, processes and best practices) to support the University’s business objectives. Is involved in all phases of systems analysis, the planning of system development and the technical design University wide. The systems impacted include large scale mission critical systems. The position has large latitude in setting priorities and is responsible for the business implications of the application of technology for the current and future business environments. Works with minimum supervision and acts as a specialist with a deep knowledge of complex technologies to enable and support critical University-wide systems and the supporting technologies. 

In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning, Design and Deployment: Provides subject matter expertise on operating system software and proposes new applications based on the functional analysis of requirements for project scope. Creates and implement complex designs involving multiple technologies. Designs end-to-end business system solutions in a complex application and technology environment. Is responsible for disaster recovery planning and implementation during the design phase.
  • Integration and Installation: Ensures overall information systems integration, validation and verification aligning the projects with the business and IT strategies. Plans for the installation of new hardware, from a software perspective, by determining what software changes are required to run the new hardware and implementing them. Leads the installation, configuration and maintenance of complex hardware including, but not limited to reviewing message logs, requesting new firmware (hardware function), reporting hardware bugs, and installing network components.
  • Operations: Manages the execution of operating system software and implement or direct the procedures including installation, customization, modification, testing, monitoring, and maintenance of selected operating system software. 
  • Recommendations: Endorses the use of specific technology to senior management to improve the effectiveness or efficiency of the faculty/service's systems. Advises senior management on major technology investments that are significant in scope (guiding the technical direction of the institution for many years) and monetary investment (often several millions of dollars).  Recommend equipment, special features and quantities to be purchased and/or leased.
  • Analysis: Validates data to make recommendations for optimizing the operating systems.  Performs analysis of disaster recovery plan and recommend additions, changes and deletions to procedures that are required to execute the plan.

What you will bring:

  • University degree in Computer Science or Information Technology or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a complex and diverse IT environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of large-scale software roll-out and maintenance best practices and tools (enterprise level), for example, Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) or Intune.
  • Knowledge of basic data security and access principles as well as of administration of business strategies in an educational environment.
  • IT service management knowledge and experience in an enterprise setting.
  • Extensive experience in IT service management software use and management and ITIL best practice implementation.
  • Experience in business process and service catalogue analysis, modelling and implementation (automated).
  • Experience in project management with understanding of associated governance structures in a university environment.
  • Experience managing employees and teams.
  • Ability to set priorities for own tasks while supporting own employees, to deliver high-quality results within required deadlines.
  • Analytical skills to diagnose and repair server infrastructure and related application problems.
  • Ability to flourish in a team-oriented environment working with the different members of the IT community.
  • Leadership skills with ability to supervise and mentor other IT professionals.
  • Bilingualism — English/French (spoken and written).
