Job Summary: The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist Neonatal Medicine/Women's Health specializes in the delivery of patient care and ensures the safe and effective use of medications for the Women's Center and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) including neonatal, obstetric, and gynecologic patients. The scope of practice includes direct patient care for women and children, often provided through interprofessional healthcare teams, as well as advocacy and education for children and their families, policy and procedure development directly related to medication use in neonatology and women's health, and involvement in committees organized for the purpose of optimizing the care of the neonatal, obstetric, and gynecologic patient. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Provide recommendations and/or manage therapy associated with medication regimens for neonatal, obstetric, and gynecologic patients as prescribed by the provider. a.Participate in clinical rounds in the NICU, Mother/Baby Unit, and Antepartum Unit b.Monitor patients admitted to the Womens Center inpatient units including Labor Delivery, Antepartum Unit, Mother/Baby Unit, Nursery, and NICU c.Ensure continuity of pharmaceutical care for neonatal, obstetric, and gynecologic patients when transferred between units in the hospital and at discharge. d.Document clinical interventions on an ongoing basis. e.Perform antimicrobial stewardship and other neonatal, obstetric, and gynecologic medication management activities as outlined per Wellstar policies. Educational responsibilities a.Develop and provide educational programs/inservices for health care practitioners and patients as needed or requested. b.Provide drug information when needed or requested. c.Serve as a preceptor/instructor for students from accredited colleges/schools of pharmacy. d.Serve as a preceptor for the Pharmacy Residency Program (where applicable). e.Assist in developing drug protocols. Participate on assigned Committees a.Participate as a member of the Wellstar Pharmacy and Therapeutics (PT) Committee, as well as other System and facility-specific committees as assigned or as deemed necessary. b.Identify target medications/therapies, develop criteria, and implement data collection for Medication Use Evaluations (MUE) and other studies/initiatives. Tabulate and present completed MUE data to the PT Committee. c.Assist in formulary maintenance by critiquing new entities, comparing medication classes, and developing therapeutic interchanges where applicable. d.Monitor quality metrics related to neonatal, obstetric, and gynecologic patients, and develop improvement strategies, as necessary. e.Assist in preparing for and maintaining compliance with regulatory agency (e.g., The Joint Commission) standards/requirements.
