Job Description Summary:

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree (Required)
  • Degree in nursing, clinical or health informatics, or other healthcare related field.
  • Field of Study: nursing, clinical or health informatics, or other healthcare related field.
  • Years of experience: Three (3) years of clinical/operational experience in a hospital or major medical center with evidence of clinical information systems use and implementation, experience with implementation of clinical systems in the hospital and/or ambulatory setting, licensed (or eligible for licensure) to practice nursing or other healthcare related field as applicable in the state of Ohio.

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE

Project management, process improvement basics; use of Microsoft Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, Visio, and Excel; clinical workflow analysis, clinical documentation, data literacy.

DESIRED ATTRIBUTES

Certification in clinical, health, or nursing informatics, experience with Epic, Fuji, and Hyland OnBase; leadership/management experience, change management, Epic accreditation/certification, ability to quickly grasp and apply technical skills required for utilization of multiple software applications and ongoing involvement with various project vendors, strong organization and presentation skills, master’s degree in nursing, clinical or health informatics, or other related healthcare field, three (3) years of experience in clinical informatics.


 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Solves complex problems, works independently, receives minimal guidance, acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience.

Informatics Administration & Facilitation (Onsite and Virtual) - 40%

  • Provides support to optimize the use of clinical informatics in the organization through development and refinement of tools, workflows, processes, structures and best practices to enhance patient care.
  • Works closely with clinical leadership, operational leadership and other key stakeholders to maximize efficient and effective use of clinical and operational informatics as it relates to patient care, patient safety, end user satisfaction, provider and staff productivity, and quality outcomes.
  • Participates in clinical informatics activities in support of interdisciplinary practice operations, decision-making, education, quality, and research initiatives.
  • Understands technical capabilities and clinical practices to help with clinical process redesign and continued improvement.
  • Guides processes with the system capabilities to collect, record, evaluate and share patient information, reduce redundancy, and standardize clinical practices and documentation.
  • Develops key decision documents that will be used to frame decision dialogue and support consensus building among providers, clinical staff, and front-line staff.
  • Acts as a change-agent champion. Represents practice operations and other clinical interests and needs related to electronic solutions.

Identifies and contributes to strategies to manage change and encourages change adoption.

Clinical Business Analysis - 40%

  • Works closely with clinical leadership, operational leadership, quality and patient safety and accreditation/licensure departments, information technology staff, and other key stakeholders to clarify needs, prioritize requests, recommend technology design and workflow plans while executing changes, adaptations, and promoting the effective use of health information technology.
  • Gathers clinical content, functionality requirements and health/patient care information needs of various specialty areas; ensures that health information technology is capable of supporting diverse customer needs and documentation styles.
  • Responsible for direct interaction with providers, clinical operations, ambulatory operations and health information technology including but not limited to helping design and implement processes to articulate the definition of requirements that meet customer needs, regulatory compliance, patient safety, and privacy.

Project Management & Consultation - 20%

  • Participates in clinical and operational informatics projects that range from medium to large in scope, risk and impact.
  • Participates in strategic projects involved in evaluating and researching new and existing products, procedures and/or workflows needs associated with health information technology.
  • Provides support in collaboration with individuals or departments to identify possible solutions both electronic and non-electronic to system problems
  • Provides consultative services to customers and application and development teams as to workflow processes and technological solutions
  • Responsible for managing moderately complex clinical and operational informatics issues and problems
  • Provides support in response to user problems and questions regarding functionality, operations, input/output, reporting and general operating procedures
  • Follows through to ensure final resolution of problems, recommending longer-term solutions when appropriate and communicating back to the individual reporting the problem.
