Job summary
The Insurance Solutions Specialist is a VP role within Global Insurance Business Development team, reporting to the Head of EMEA and Asia Insurance Business Development. The Global Insurance BD team is responsible for serving and helping to retain our current General Account clients and to growing our business in North America, EMEA and Asia.
The candidate will focus on the EMEA and Asia regions and will partner across AB with our Insurance Business Development, Investment and Distribution teams to help the AB team build relationships, deepen trust, and develop new business with Chief Investment Officers and their staffs. Working closely with the sales team in particular, the ISS will support the team in setting the strategic direction for engagements with insurers across an array of strategies and topics.
Job Description
Opportunity Scoping
- Market sizing and supporting the maintenance of a holistic prospect list across EMEA and Asia-Pacific countries.
- Gaining a deep understanding of key prospects and supporting identification of both tactical and strategic engagement opportunities.
Client and Prospect Engagement
- Working with sales leaders to develop a prospect-by-prospect outreach plan; helping to facilitate the creation of custom materials for those engagements.
- Coordinate with consultant relations teams on advocating our insurance capabilities with investment consulting firms.
- Provide expert support in client/prospect meetings to advance opportunities; suggest others to join as necessary.
- Developing new creative engagement ideas leveraging AB talent.
- Regularly and proactively providing updates to the EMEA/Asia advisors on insurance marketplace and AB happenings.
Regulatory and Market Knowledge
- Scouring industry news sources for information that might lead to opportunities.
- Monitoring regulatory evolution and adjusting product strategy based on new information.
- Developing and enhancing capabilities in light of regulatory evolution.
- Sharing the above regulatory and market knowledge with the sales leaders and regional sales force
- Collaborating with the firm’s Data Science team to feed insurance company news on an automated basis.
Facilitating Analytical Follow-up Work and Advancing Key Opportunities
- Helping on key RFPs and ideating on presentations for strategic meetings.
- Supporting pre-analysis for prospect meetings and driving the meeting agenda towards areas of highest potential.
- Leading analytical follow-up work to advance an opportunity or close a sale.
Technical Solutions, Product Development, Structuring and M&A
- Executing on strategic asset allocation reviews of clients/prospects portfolios utilizing AB’s Insurance SAA tool.
- Supporting the development of Insurance Peer Analysis processes in key regions/countries.
- Supporting and contributing new product development ideas, either organic or inorganic that will drive third-party insurance growth in EMEA, APAC.
- Working with investment teams, Product Development, Ops on creating portfolio constructions and structures that will meet insurer’s needs.
- Enhancing internal capabilities for calculating capital charges on a robust, repeatable and scalable basis.
- Ensuring capital charge impact on all EMEA/APAC priority strategies are clear and consider how they can be further optimized.
- Contributing to the research & review of potential M&A and/or strategic partnership opportunities as required.
Identifying and Delivering on Collateral Needs
- Supporting the creation of insurance sensitive intro materials aligned to AB’s value proposition in each country of coverage.
- Driving the creation and ongoing maintenance of product and thematic presentations to be used to engage.
- Creation of thought leadership and/or topic ideas that will differentiate AB in non-US markets.
Job Qualifications and Key Attributes
- Strong investment acumen, especially in Fixed Income (Core and Higher-yielding areas) Private Alternatives, Responsible Investing.
- Technical experience in insurance investment strategy, portfolio management, or credit analysis preferred. Experience analyzing and presenting insurance specific needs in the context of economic risk/return, solvency and accounting/reporting requirements.
- Five or more years of successful Insurance related GA asset management or a role working directly or indirectly with insurers.
- Some travel will be required to meet internal and external client needs (approximately 10%)
- Concise and intuitive in both written and spoken language. Adept at synthesis to tell a story and arrive at a compelling conclusion.
- Actuarial or CFA qualifications a plus but not essential dependent on experience.
