Reporting to the Senior Manager, Client Performance & Reporting, the Analyst/Senior Analyst is a subject matter expert who provides support to the Performance team by developing and maintaining performance methodologies, calculations, benchmarks, and attributions to provide timely, accurate and high-quality performance analytics and reports for multi-billion-dollar clients. This is a highly client-centric role and close collaboration with other client-focused teams is required. Responsibilities may include executing performance calculations, interpreting attribution analysis, conducting ad-hoc analytics, responding to client requests, investigating discrepancies, developing new measures and reports, and ensuring the availability and accuracy of information provided to various stakeholders. The Analyst/Senior Analyst must display strong attention to detail, while being able to create visually appealing, succinct performance reports on time. The position seeks to continually improve reports, processes, and workbooks.
1-5 years institutional investment experience, preferably in performance measurement and/or client-facing roles
Advanced skills in the Microsoft suite, in particular Excel, Power BI, and SQL Server (or related data management experience, e.g., other SQL languages querying relational databases, data modelling and manipulation). Python and VBA are a plus
A relevant university degree (finance, accounting, math, computer science). Completion or pursuit of CIPM, CFA, or CPA designation is preferred
An understanding of asset class behaviour, capital markets, and complex institutional investment portfolios (i.e. knowledge of derivatives/overlay, absolute return strategies, alternative investments, private markets) and industry standard performance measurement and benchmarking practices
Operates with a sense of urgency, and strives to produce 100% accuracy on all work
Demonstrated problem solving skills
A strong analytical background
Dedication to continuous improvement
Excellent verbal and written communications skills including business writing and acumen
Has a history of being a self-starter with a natural curiosity to investigate and/or solve issues, combining technical skills with finance/accounting knowledge and motivated by learning
Knowledge of industry leading best practices related to the measurement and reporting of illiquid assets, derivatives, and benchmarks, preferably in the Canadian Pension environment
Ability to use critical thinking skills to tackle challenges in an innovative way
Ability to multi-task and deliver under pressure, with a high degree of accuracy
SimCorp experience considered an asset
Produces accurate and timely performance reports and presentations for clients, management, strategy assessment, and other ad hoc purposes with business partners within BCI
Monitors the accuracy and integrity of data and methodologies in performance activities, providing insights for clients and stakeholders
Develops and improves workbooks, reports, and processes
Prepares analysis and written material explaining issues or anomalies in performance results
Responds promptly to ad-hoc requests from other departments and clients
Reviews operations and identifies opportunities for process improvement
Reviews and implements new systems or upgrades as required
Participates in business planning, change management, and corporate initiatives as needed
Completes performance reports and checks promptly
Validates and explains performance results for our clients, requiring close collaboration with other teams
Investigates and resolves return anomalies through effective collaboration with colleagues in Performance team and across functions
Supports ad-hoc requests related to performance data
Supports audit, internal control, and process procedure documentation
Depending on the skill level and relevant experience the successful candidate will be hired at one of the following levels with the annualized base salary range for this Victoria-based role.
Analyst – CAD $77,000-$93,000
Senior Analyst – CAD $90,000-$109,000
The base salary offered to the successful candidate will consider a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill set, level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered and consideration to internal equity.

We aim for actual pay to be around the median of the market for target or expected levels of performance, and around the upper quartile of the market for excellent performance.
Actual salaries may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to, experience and expertise.
