What You Will Contribute:
 

The Group - Advanced Quality Engineer is responsible for working with New Product Development (NPD) and Customer Success and Field Support teams to Defining, Improving, and Maintaining Badger Meter quality systems and providing technical direction ensuring the effective coordination and execution of projects as they relate to the quality of our processes, services, and products within our U.S. and Foreign Operations.

This role is critical in supporting all Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, Environmental, Continuous Improvement initiatives, and metrics.  This includes the ability to work with internal and external customers to support Badger Meter’s corporate values and goals.

Job Duties:

  • Establish and foster key relationships throughout the organization enabling effective performance to execute on commitments and deliver results while driving critical issues simultaneously.

  • Maintain a safe working environment (within the department and across the sites).

  • Support SQDCE metric development and collaborate cross functionally within a multi-site environment.

  • Within the New Product Development teams, collaborate with cross functional (often multi-site) teams to identify, schedule, and execute all quality related deliverables including: - History of Quality - PFMEAs and Control Plans - Process Capability, GR&R and MSA - Production Parts Approval Process (PPAPs) or Part Validation for Finished Goods, Accessories, Service Parts, and as required components and raw materials.

  • Collaborate with Site Quality Managers and Engineers as products transition into production and strive to improve new product development processes to attain improved launch quality metrics.

  • Provide technical guidance to create, review, and improve Badger Meter quality acceptance standards (QAS). Identify key industry standards and leverage them to drive uniformity within Badger Meter practices.

  • Identify opportunities for the improvement of quality procedures, product designs, manufacturing processes, and equipment. Continually drive to improve product uniformity while eliminating/minimizing non-conformances.

  • Development inspection and test methodologies that demonstrate sufficient capability of meeting/exceeding quality requirements.

  • Track quality performance through the analysis of metrics, to lead the utilization of data sources to improve customer quality by collaborating with cross functional teams to resolve top customer issues, continually seek and identify additional opportunities for improvement.

  • Provide disposition of non-conformances in a timely manner, assure that the proper corrective and preventive actions are taken, and follow up to assess effectiveness.

  • Collaborate with Quality Systems, Supplier Quality Engineering, and Reliability to support departmental activities.

  • Lead training needs with APQP, problem-solving, root cause analysis, process capability, measurement system analysis, and other data analytic techniques. Preferred problem-solving techniques; 8-Step, 8D, and/or A3.

  • Mentor group and site quality teams to develop skills and expand capabilities.

  • Maintain professional level and technical skills through memberships in technical and professional societies, and by attending appropriate courses and seminars.

  • Up to 25% travel required.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field required

  • 10+ years of experience in NPD & Customer Complaints or a related field desired

Qualifications:

  • Intermediate knowledge of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) preferred

  • Intermediate knowledge of Statistical Process Techniques, Failure Analysis, and Process Validation experience preferred

  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office and related products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio)

  • Lean Six Sigma practitioner, Black Belt certification preferred preferred

  • Intermediate knowledge in Quality Systems (ISO 9001, ISO 17025, AS9100)

  • Strong Project Management Skills, certification preferred

  • Fluent in English, additional languages French and/or Spanish an advantage preferred

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership capability with the ability to shape and drive change

  • Strong problem solving skills required

  • Ability to work effectively onsite and with remote locations required

  • Ability to multi-task and drive critical issues simultaneously required

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in a manufacturing/office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment.
