The role

Fugro are now looking for an Operations Manager to join our Marine Geophysical team based at our waterfront location in Portsmouth Harbour.

As Operations Manager, you will fulfil a senior position with accountability for operational success.  You will manage a team consisting of engineers, vessel crew, logistics staff, planners and administrators and provide the organisational structure and key communication to link the operational teams with the project delivery, commercial and data delivery teams.  You will also, with close liaison with the Service Line Manager, provide a structure to ensure that operations are conducted safely and to their budget.

You will directly line manage the Engineering, Vessel, Logistics, Planning and Administrative teams.  You will work collaboratively with the Project Delivery Manager, Commercial Manager and Data Delivery Manager.  You will report to the Service Line Manager within the Europe and Africa region.

Further duties will include -

  • Working with internal teams to communicate operational requirements for future projects.
  • Review future project staff resourcing needs, recruit and manage staff training/competency.
  • Review awarded scopes of work to define equipment and vessel mobilisation requirements. 
  • Oversee vessel crew changes and crew movements.
  • Track, monitor and improve department KPI’s for actual v budgeted mobilisations and vessel/equipment downtime.
  • Support offshore teams to promote a proactive HSEQ culture, review operational management of change requests, support incident investigations and close out if required.

Who we’re looking for:

  • Ideally educated to degree level in an industry related subject but not essential if you have other suitable experience.
  • Operational offshore experience is essential ideally in the geophysical, geotechnical or subsea survey related industry.
  • Must be highly organised and show suitable experience with operational and project tracking/planning.
  • Willing to commute to the Portsmouth location 3+ days a week.
  • Confident with excellent stakeholder management and relationship building skills.
  • You would like to use your technical experience to organise and manage efficient offshore operations.
  • You are able to adapt plans to the changing marine environment. 
  • You would like accountability for staff resourcing, training and competency.
  • You have excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • You are highly organised and enjoy planning, tracking and managing.
