Blue Ridge Power (BRP) is seeking an experienced and commercially minded renewable energy construction attorney to join our Legal team as an Assistant General Counsel. Our legal team members are true business partners providing the legal expertise needed to build grid-scale solar and storage projects throughout the United States. The Assistant General Counsel will provide legal and transactional support to all phases of our business, including contracting, pre-construction, execution, and dispute resolution.
This Assistant General Counsel reports directly to the General Counsel.
What You’ll Do:
- Assist the General Counsel function in all areas of risk and compliance, including safety, ethics, environment, employment, licensing, information technology, intellectual property, and cybersecurity/privacy.
- Proactively manage risk across the construction portfolio, guiding construction teams in risk mitigation techniques drafting notices, and solving dynamic issues in real time.
- Support business and project management teams in managing all aspects of utility-scale solar and storage projects to provide exceptional customer service to project owners that position BRP to successfully construct projects safely, on time, and budget.
- Manage claims, disputes, litigation, and compliance matters relating to BRP’s business, including construction agreements, labor and employment matters, and permitting requirements.
- Draft, negotiate, and manage EPC agreements, subcontracts, procurement agreements, NDAs, and related agreements.
- Train project teams to understand, implement, and enforce contractual requirements.
- Advise and assist with construction and contractual claims, and disputes with owners, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Control the flow down of key provisions in financing and EPC agreements into procurement agreements and subcontracts.
- Advise and make presentations and recommendations to senior legal and business management.
- Manage outside counsel to ensure high-value and efficient representation
Must-Haves:
- 10+ years of legal experience with complex commercial transactions and project risk management, preferably in the renewable energy industry.
- Substantial transactional experience in a law firm and/or in-house at an energy or construction company.
- Demonstrated success in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating construction agreements, procurement agreements, subcontracts, NDAs, change orders, and related contracts.
- Commitment to ethics, integrity, and sound judgment.
- Ability to dispassionately manage conflict and mitigate risk.
- Ability to work independently, lead negotiations, raise issues, and propose solutions for the broader team.

- Proven ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience with renewable energy project finance transactions.
- Experience working with investor-owned utilities and 3rd party EPC customers.
- Strong organizational skills.

- Proactive approach, self-starter, takes initiative.
Education and Certifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school is required.
- An active license to practice law in at least one US jurisdiction is required.
Working Environment and Physical Demand:
- This position can be remote, preferably within comfortable traveling distance to one of our BRP office locations in Asheville or Fayetteville, NC.
- Some travel may be required. Travel up to 10% - Asheville, Fayetteville, Customers, Projects as appropriate occasionally.
- The position works in an office environment.
- Must be able to sit/stand at a desk and utilize a computer for extended periods.
- Ability to balance many assignments simultaneously in a dynamic environment.
