Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer

Salary: £38,850 per annum + dependent upon experience

Location: Peterborough

About IPSD

Job Summary

Working within the Manufacturing Engineering department you will be part of a multi skilled team responsible for the ownership of manufacturing processes across the Peterborough Assembly, Test, and Finish facilities covering multiple engine platforms.

As a Manufacturing Engineer you are responsible for driving performance and efficiency improvements into existing processes, maintaining compliance to safety standards and environmental requirements while being instrumental in ensuring the business can meet customer requirements while delivering quality & cost targets achieving processes adherence to established standards, policies, and practices.

What You Will Do

  • Monitor facility process health identifying and addressing problem areas.

  • Identify and implement enhancements and modifications to equipment and processes.

  • Creation / modifications of equipment and facilities in order to meet our business demands.

  • Creation / management of Standard Work, Risk assessments, PFMEA, Control plans and process flow documentation.

  • Analysis of engineering changes and deviations initiating and implementing process changes to achieve the latest engineering requirements.

  • Provide coaching and support on planning, development, operation, and maintenance of equipment, processes, or facilities.

  • Collaborate with internal customers and leadership to scope and execute projects that meet the needs of the business.

  • Keep up to date on new technologies and drive continuous improvement to established techniques.

Skills you will demonstrate

Day to Day Skills

  • Manufacturing safety: A knowledge of manufacturing safety requirements utilising risk and ergonomic assessments to the ability to identify work-related hazards. Perform necessary activities to meet regulatory requirements for the safety and protection of workers, environment and site.

  • Manufacturing Processes: A knowledge of existing product manufacturing methods, technologies and processes; ability to execute, plan, manage and monitor the manufacturing processes.

  • Process Management: Knowledge of process improvement tools and techniques; ability to understand, monitor, update, control, or enhance existing work processes.

  • Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognising, anticipating, and resolving operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.

  • Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of process problems and create and implement robust corrective actions that resolve these.

  • Excellent communications skills & teamwork being self-motivated and an ability to manage and deliver tasks to meet commitments.

  • Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret business requirements.

  • Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various manufacturing methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.

  • Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organise, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilisation of technical and support functions to achieve project objectives.

  • Lean Manufacturing: A knowledge of the philosophy and principles of lean manufacturing; ability to integrate and implement lean manufacturing philosophy into existing production and management processes.

  • Relationship Management: Knowledge of relationship management techniques; ability to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with internal customers, support functions, peers and suppliers.

  • Manufacturing Standards, Procedures and Policies: Knowledge of organisational standards, procedures and policies in manufacturing activities; ability to plan, guide, and monitor manufacturing processes for compliance.

Desirable Knowledge

  • Manufacturing background – ideally educated to degree level in manufacturing, mechanical, electronic, electrical or control systems engineering; however, consideration will be given to other qualifications or significant job-related experience in lieu of this.

  • Experience of running and participating in FMEA

  • An interest and/or basic background in CAD/ 3D modelling

  • Knowledge and usage of Teamcentre – data management software

  • Familiarity with Microsoft O365 including MS Teams
