About the role

Our Canadian business segment is a leading provider of protection, health, asset management and wealth solutions, providing products and services that deliver value to over 5.5 million Clients.  We are the largest provider of benefits and pensions in the workplace, and offer a wide range of products to individuals via retail channels.  We are focused on helping Canadians achieve lifetime financial security and live healthier lives.  Our key business units include: Individual Wealth, Group Retirement Services, Sun Life Health and Individual Insurance.

Reporting to the AVP, FPR&A, the Director of Finance Process Management and Innovation will play a key role in optimizing the processes that support the financial reporting, analysis, and planning functions for the Canadian business segment of the company.

The Financial Planning, Reporting and Analysis (FPR&A) team that supports that Canadian business segment has a mandate that encompasses:

  • Reporting and analysis of quarterly business group performance for senior leadership

  • Key messaging for the investment community and employees

  • Development of the 5 Year strategic financial plan and the 1-year operating plan

What you'll be doing

Current State:

  • Coordination of all current financial reporting and analysis processes, including developing the annual calendar, communicating with business unit finance teams, and escalating key issues to senior leadership.

  • Act as the main point of contact for new reporting requirements from corporate partners.

Future State:

  • Document the current state of the planning and forecasting processes with the business units.

  • Partner with the Canadian Finance Optimization team to:

    • Research and recommend process improvements and technology solutions.

    • Build the data infrastructure to support automated business analysis and forecasting.

    • Oversee the development of key financial models for automated forecasting.

  • Identify change impacts and work with key stakeholders in managing the change process

  • Present recommendations and plans to senior leadership

What you'll need to succeed

  • 5-7 years of FP&A experience in the financial services industry, preferably insurance and wealth management.

  • Experience leading process improvement or re-engineering initiatives in a finance function.

  • Strong relationship management skills, including the ability to understand business requirements and translate them into solutions.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and facilitation skills.

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, business, or IT, with an MBA and/or CPA designation preferred.

  • Proficient in financial modeling and analysis using tools like Excel, Oracle, SAP, Essbase, and Tableau.

  • As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only as the position includes managing both French and English-speaking staff (Quebec and outside Quebec) and providing daily support to the team.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted.  It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.  In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.  Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
