Position Overview

Arch Insurance Group Inc., AIGI, has an opening with the Claims Division on the MidCorp Team as a Claims Director, TPA/Vendor Management.  In this role, the responsibilities include directing the strategy and handling of claims within line of business(es) as well as external delegated authority partners.

Primary Responsibilities

Specific duties include but not limited to the below:

Claim Strategy:

Assist with the execution of Claims strategy for lines of business. Contribute to the development of Claims line strategies.

Collaborate with Claim management, claims legal, and other claims product teams to develop strategies and business plans to reduce claim cost/expenses.

Claim Targets:

Assist with driving the achievement of financial targets (e.g. full combined ratio) and contribute to annual target setting for claims. Ensure claims reserves and settlements are consistent with exposures.

Market Management:

Proactively support acquisition of new business and retention of existing business. Coordinate with Underwriting and Pricing teams to drive successful execution of strategic plan.

Claims Approach and Compliance:

Ensure claim handling consistency and discipline through management of the claims file review process in accordance with corporate guidelines. Provide technical claims guidance and settlement authority. Evaluate and assign appropriate claims autonomy to team; including auditing files to ensure autonomy levels and claim practices are adhered to.

Leading and Managing Claims Team:

Lead and manage team, including direct reports and matrix management of functional reports.

Assist with managing cost center budget within plan. Continuous evaluation and execution of staff development, including development plans.

Relationship Management:

Positively represent Arch Claims internally within the AINA Group, and externally to the market.

Proactively drive involvement of functional areas in Claims process, including e.g. ARC, Underwriting Claims, Operations. Responsible for providing Claims Leadership with regular updates regarding events/activities in the product area.

Seek guidance from Claims Leadership on issues that will have an impact on the Company.

Referrals and Compliance:

Ensure all claims handled within authority limits, and in line with Arch Claims complex procedures and guidelines.

Support establishment of claims management procedures on new business accounts in association with clients, brokers and loss adjusters. Undertake audits of internal adjusters and external service providers as appropriate.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree;
  • Significant experience, 7-10+ years in Claims Management position in relevant line of business.
  • Exceptional communication (written and verbal), evaluating, influencing, negotiating, listening, and interpersonal skills to effectively develop productive working relationships with internal/external peers and other professionals across organizational lines
  • Claims Handling: Ability to assess exposures and mitigate expenses. Claim Management: Manage the claims for LoB, monitor claims exposure and reserves; Analyze trends and scenario to develop and implement claim handling best practices.
  • Successful track record of leadership in direct teams and complex matrix environments. Experience managing and developing teams in multiple locations and both hybrid and remote environments. Coaching: Ability to advise, instruct, direct, and guide as a coach to help someone develop his/her skills as well as manage performance accordingly.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze highly complex data, from multiple sources, in detail, identify, anticipate and resolve issues before they arise.
  • Hands-on experience and strong aptitude with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Willing and able to travel 10% 
  • Proper & active adjuster licensing in all applicable states
