Role Overview:

The Manager, Corporate Accounting will be responsible for the corporate accounting function of Fidelity Canada which includes the combined entity and the individual business channels including the distribution, investment management and custody & clearing business. The function works closely with the various teams to provide corporate accounting oversight.

The individual will manage a team at Fidelity Canada’s head office in Toronto.  As well, the individual will manage an offshoring team from Fidelity India which is dedicated to support Fidelity Canada’s accounting function. 

This position will report to and work closely with the Director, Finance and Corporate Accounting and be a member of the Fidelity Canada Finance management team.  The Fidelity Canada Finance & Corporate Services team operates in a hybrid working environment.

What You Will Do:

  • Manage the Corporate Accounting team in Canada (which includes 4 individuals), work closely with the offshoring team within Fidelity India and partner with Fidelity International colleagues.
  • Manage the delivery of accounting services to the Canadian businesses, including the month end close process, general ledger accounting, financial reporting, regulatory reporting, and analysis of technical accounting issues and considerations.
  • Work with the various finance functions to lead an effort to develop new accounting processes and controls to support the growth and changes in the businesses. Activities include establishing accounting practices for new legal entities, enhancing accounting processes over key financial statement areas (e.g. revenue, compensation, intercompany allocations), and developing an improved reporting framework.
  • Assist in the coordination of the external audits for all entities, including preparation of financial statements, review with management, and coordination with the external auditors.
  • Assist with the intercompany reporting function which includes oversight of services from other Fidelity companies, maintaining service agreements and preparing forecasts/budgets for planning purposes.
  • Manage the complex accounting needs of the entities within the Canadian Joint  
  • Venture structure, including the related financial reporting and monthly close activities. 

What We're Looking For:

  • Completion of a University degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent work experience
  • CPA/CA or equivalent designation is required
  • Professional experience in a Big 4 firm is preferred with subsequent experience in financial services industry
  • Prior people management skills is required
  • Prior experience in an accounting function which includes month end and year-end audit activities
  • Understanding of asset and wealth management in Canada is an asset
